RECORDED ABROAD! While serving in the United States Army, Paul relocated his label, TMPB Recordings, to Korea where his music became noticeably more moody and profound. These works were shelved until two years after his return to the states, where they re-emerged on the 1991 release The Man that You Never Knew.

Although not obvious at first, repeated listening reveals that the songs on The Man that You Never Knew are united by subtle underlying themes that give the album a cohesiveness unlike Benshoof’s previous albums. This intertwining thematic structure moves loosely from the subject of "imprisonment" to "avoiding imprisonment" while at the same time questioning whether we know ourselves and if others really know us.

While the clever manipulation and unity of themes make the album an enjoyable listen, the songs work as stand-alone entities as well. Consequently, album cuts Never Run Forever and Picture on the Wall enjoyed popularity that rivaled Benshoof’s earlier hits. A TMAR favorite!
