Casino Apache, Mescalero Apache Reservation

The Mescalero Apache operated a  very popular resort, Inn Of The Mountain Gods, long before they opened Casino Apache.  With a multi year renovation completed in March 2005, Casino Apache has morphed into the Inn of the Mountain Gods Casino. The location is the same, but a large hotel/convention center/casino has replaced the old facility. To be honest, I am disappointed.  The new facility is attractive but sterile, and lacks any unique southwestern flavor or character (although the hotel lobby is neat).  Other than the intriguing fountain and the beautiful countryside, the complex is unappealing.  But since I live in the southern Chihuahua Desert, going to the high country of  the Sacramentos Mountains/southern Rocky Mountains and Lincoln National Forest, is always a pleasure, with the trees and cooler temperatures.   As seen from the following photographs, the resort casino is on a large lake, surrounded by the mountains.    Very scenic for a desert rat like me!.  The casino itself  has the usual slot machines (all TITO) and table games, As an added bonus, the world famous Ski Apache is nearby.  Additionally, up the road is the Casino Apache Travel Center Casino and the Billy The Kid Casino in Ruidoso.  The entire area is well worth a visit.
