For additional recreation the Arrey RV Park owns and offers access to160 acres of placier mining claims in the old Hillsboro mining district in the Copper Flats Area. The mining claims are located approximately 17 miles over good road from the RV Park..There was an old mining town that was located just above where the claims are situated. The old town dates back to the 1800’s. A couple of the buildings from this town still exist. The mining claims are a good area for hiking, dry washing, and metal detecting. Anyone that stays in the Arrey RV Park is welcome to enjoy the mining claims for the duration of their stay. There are a number of GPA(Gold Prospectors Association) members that come to the RV Park and enjoy all that the RV Park and claims have to offer. Some travelers stay for weeks and even months at a time. Across the Rio Grande River from the RV Park is the Caballo Mountains. This area is well known for old Spanish gold mining. There are numerous areas to go and do your own dry washing, metal detecting, and exploring. A lot of this area is BLM. If you stay in the RV Park, you can hear many exciting tales about these mountains.
