About Us

We
live and train in a mountain community at an elevation of approximately 7500 feet above
sea level.
This "high-altitude" allows us to have better stamina at the lower
elevations where we occasionally participate in tournaments.
Our Dojang is unique! It is open to anyone with no charge for classes. Students pay
for their uniforms,
personal protection equipment, books, tournament fees.
Mr. Joe Dan Yates has always contended that he
teaches a free class for his own personal growth and development.

Having
students helps to motivate him to improve his knowledge and ability.
Each student is ultimately responsible for his or her own growth and development.
We
have been meeting for about five years now.
What started in a vacant bowling alley with two black belts and a handful of white belts
has adapted through changes.
We practice primarily in a public school gymnasium.
Because
it is a free school sometimes there are forty students, sometimes there are four.
Mr. Yates trains the class as a whole to the fitness level of the most advanced
students. Beginning students are expected to adapt the work-outs to their own level of
ability by not doing as many repetitions or kicking as high as or stretching as far as the
advanced students.
Some beginners "forget" that they have been sitting on the sofa watching TV for the last five years and that their once athletic physiques need to be gradually re-conditioned. It takes special attitude to stick with a school where even the "old ladies" can kick high and punch hard.
