On the southern most tip of the Pinellas peninsula lies Mullet Key. This island is situated as the mouth of Tampa Bay.

In 1898 construction began on the military post, in 1900 Fort De Soto was garrisoned by a detachment of Company A, 1st Artillery.

Gulf of Mexico

Beautiful swimming beach on the bay side of the island. Virtually empty on a Friday afternoon in early June.
