Red Rock Canyon is listed as being 14 miles from Las Vegas. But as you can see from this picture, Las Vegas has grown out to the mountains.

A large wash area or arroyo, that takes the spring rains.

After a rainy winter, the desert floor is unusually lush green. Las Vegas had gotten as much rain in Jan. & Feb. as they usually get all year!
