Lake Amistad is formed by a dam built between Mexico and Texas to control flodding. The dam was finished in 1969.

It is about 10 feet lower than normal due to the drought.

The surrounding area is part of the Chihuahua desert and reminded us of southern New Mexico.

The Pecos River is a tributary of teh Rio Grande.
