If the free space is less than 25-30% of the total hard drive space your computer will be sluggish in running (it is running out of memory (energy) to perform). You might want to look and see what program or game is taking up so much space.

Now let’s look at the tools

From here you can scan the hard drive (or a floppy) for errors and defrag the hard drive.

Make sure that you have turned off your screen saver and that you have closed any other programs that might be running on the desktop.

If you do not know how to turn off your screen saver click here now.

First check your drive for errors.

Select thorough and check the box to Automatically fix errors

This will run a few minutes. When this is finished click on Defragment Now

This can take up to 45 minutes or longer – depending on how long it has been since the last time it was defragged. so, sit back and relax.

It is a good idea to do both of these checks at least once a month,
especially if the computer gets a lot of use.
