Defragging Your Computer Windows XP & 2000

First, close all other programs and turn off your screen saver.
Close all programs that run automatically in the background, as an example; windows messenger, real player, virus software and etc. These will often interrupt the defragging process.
Double click on My Computer.

Right Click on the C: Drive and choose Properties.

Choose the Tools tab.

Select the Defragmentation Button

Click the Defragment button

As you can see from all the RED and WHITE - the computer needs to be defragged!
Once this has finished I would recommend running a disc scan on your computer.

Right click on the C: drive and go to Properties and select the Tools tab.

Click the box for Error-checking - Check Now ...

Place a check in both boxes and click the Start button.


Click the Yes button. 
The machine will restart and the hard drive will be scanned for errors.
