Open Microsoft Photo Editor

Select the Scanner Icon on the menu bar
(or go to File, Scan Image)

The scanning software – Epson Twain32 will automatically launch and begin to pre-scan your document.

Sometimes it is necessary to select the image type and the resolution.

(*Especially if someone was using it before you!)

For photos, set the image type to
Color Photo or Black & White Photo.

Change the resolution to 72.
**Note in the example above that is an image was scanned at 8x10.5 inches it would make a file that was 1.47 MB!! It would NOT fit on a floppy!

Scan the image by selecting the SCAN button

It will automatically place it inside of Microsoft Photo Editor where you can chose only the part of the picture that you want to crop.

Go to Image
Select Crop

Select either Rectangle or Oval
Click OK

To brighten the image or “Balance the colors”

Go to Image
Select Auto Balance

It will automatically adjust the colors. If the adjust is too much, go to Image, Balance and adjust the settings yourself.

Now check the size of your image
Go to Image
Select Resize

In this example the image is small and should fit in most documents.

If your image is too big, now is the time to make is smaller. Change either the width or the height and the other side will automatically adjust to keep the image proportional.

Images can also be made larger but be careful as the pixels might distort.

It is generally best to resize to a smaller image size.

Now, save your image in Photo Editor

Select JPEG File. This will save as a smaller image file.

**Windows BMP are very LARGE Files and are hard to insert into some documents.
