Open Netscape Composer or Netscape Gold.

Go to File
Select New Blank Page

Your page will look similar to the one above.

Next you need to design a table that is one row by one column, it should be center aligned, the table borders should be set to 0 pixels (making the table invisible)  and the table should be no larger than 600 pixels. The table will server as a horizontal margin for your web page.

Go to Insert,
Select Table

Click Apply and then Close.

The finished invisible table will look like this.

Next you will create a title for your page.
Change Normal to Heading 1, Select center alignment and begin typing.

Now is a good time to Save your work.
Go to File
Select Save

Select a folder to save your web page in.
This folder should also include all graphics and all images that you will use with your web page.

Name the title page index
Click on  Save.

Now go to Format,
Page properties.
Type in the name of your page, your name, description, key words and classification.

Click Apply and then Close.

Now it is time to do some fun stuff! J

Let's insert a small graphic or animated image into the page just below the title.
Make sure you have placed a carriage return (hit the enter key) after your title to place the cursor in the correct position.

Go to Insert.
Select Image

Select Choose File when this dialog box appears.

Select the image, in this example I used ivyvine

Click Open

In the next dialog box, click Apply and then Close.

The web page now looks like this. Cool! J

Hit the enter key once or twice after this graphic image. This will place the cursor a few spaces below this animated gif. Now we are ready to make an organization or navigation table that you will use to help people navigate around your web site or to find the rest of your web pages.

Go to Insert
Select Table

This table will have 2 rows and 2 columns. It is centered aligned, the border widths, cell spacing and padding are 3 pixels and the entire table is restricted to 550 pixels.

Select Apply, then Close.

This web page now looks like the example above.

Type in the name of the web pages that you want to link to from this index page.

We will now link these titles to the actual web pages.

Highlight (Select) the first web page.

Go to Insert
Select Link
Select Choose File

For this example I am linking to page example

Click on Open.
Click Apply and then Close.
If the web page is already somewhere on the Internet you can type in the exact URL (address)

In this case, the address for the site was http://www.zianet.com/msaxton

Again, click on Apply and then Close.

Here is another example.

You can also link images to web pages in the same way.

Select the image that you want to be a link.

Choose Insert
Select Link

In this example the link will launch an email message to the author (me) Mary Saxton -
my email address is msaxton@zianet.com

Graphics or images that are links to web pages will have blue borders around them when viewed in a web browser. Typed text that is linked to a web page will be in blue and underlined.

OK, you're on your own! Have fun!!
