Norman J. Mabie, Sr.
MSGT. NORMAN J. MABIE SR., Ret. US Army, age 72, of Las Cruces entered eternal life
Tuesday, February 3, 2004 at Memorial Medical Center. He was born February 18, 1931
in DuBois, Pennsylvania to Rome and Anna Abramovich Mabie. Msgt. Mabie was decorated
with the Good Conduct Medal (6th Award) and the National Defense Service Medal (OLC) and
retired after twenty years of service. He was the owner and operator of the Anglers
Nook Fly Fishing; co-founder and first President of the Mesilla Valley Fly Fishers Club;
instructor of Fly tying and fly-casting. Mr. Mabie was a Master Rod Builder and was
President of Rod and Gun Shop in Rothwesten, Germany. Mr. Mabie retired from
Prudential Insurance as an agent.
Survivors include his loving wife, Donna J. Mabie of the family home; two sons, Norman "Chip" Mabie Jr. and wife Sharon of Keller, Texas, David Mabie Sr. of Las Cruces; his mother, Anna Mabie of Erie, Pennsylvania; three brothers, Joe Mabie and wife Theresa of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, Regis Mabie and wife Rita, Albert "Mickey" Mabie and wife Charlotte all of Erie, Pennsylvania; three sisters, Evelyn Kirkwood of DuBois, Pennsylvania, Romanie Hanson, Colleen Foltyn and husband Jack all of Erie, Pennsylvania. Other survivors include three grandchildren, David Mabie Jr. of Las Cruces, Matthew and Diana Mabie both of Keller, Texas as well as numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his father, Rome Mabie; one brother, Charles Mabie; two sisters, Geraldine Yount and Beverly Hoff.
Visitation for Msgt. Mabie will begin at 6 PM Thursday, February 5, 2004 in the West Chapel of Bacas Funeral Chapels where the Prayer Vigil is scheduled to begin at 7 PM.
The Funeral Liturgy will be celebrated at 10 AM Friday, February 6, 2004 in Immaculate Heart of Mary Cathedral with Monsignor Francis Smith of St. Raphaels Parish in El Paso, Texas officiating. Cremation will follow and inurnment of cremains will take place at a later date in the Immaculate Heart of Mary Columbarium. A Fort Bliss Honor Guard will accord military honors.
Norm was known by all as a very giving, patient, kind and tenderhearted person who was a true friend to all.
