SILVER CITY, NEW MEXICO

In a time when the simple joys of life are far too hard to come by, Silver City is surrounded by wide-open spaces, lush forests, and landscapes that encourage reflection.  Silver City also hosts a wide variety of cultural activities, a thriving art community that has achieved national attention, and streets lined with charming galleries alongside quaint shops and cafes.  The American dream does exist, and it exists surrounded by over three million acres of national forest and other natural wonders in Silver City, New Mexico.

Grant County has the most temperate climate in the state, with high temperatures rarely approaching 100 degrees, and winter lows 20 degrees or more.  This is the reason for "four gentle seasons," and offers the best of all possible worlds.  No wonder Silver City has been called "one of America's best small towns," with 350-plus days of sunshine, any season is the right time of year to explore all that Grant County has to offer.

The  Gila National Forest  will beckon you with its lofty spaces of light, mountains, and bright sky.  The forest includes the nation's first wilderness area, the  Gila Wilderness , as well as the Aldo Leopold and Blue Wilderness areas.  An extensive system of trails offers pleasant hikes through cool forested mountains or along shady streams.  Backpackers will find plenty of beautiful, wild, and remote country for long trips in quiet solitude.  Day hikers will find good trails and many opportunities for pleasant exploration and wildlife viewing.
