In America's quest for the ideal community, far removed from the stress
and confinement of a large city, Silver
City
has been getting alot of attention lately. Mentioned in Norman
Ford's book, The 50 Healthiest Places to Live and
Retire in the United States, Silver City has all of the necessary
elements to ensure that it continues to be a welcome
escape for those seeking refuge from the pollution, crime, and congestion
that has come to characterize modern life.
In a time when the simple joys of life are far too hard to come by,
Silver City is surrounded by wide-open spaces,
lush forests, and landscapes that encourage reflection. Silver
City also hosts a wide variety of cultural activities, a
thriving art community that has achieved national attention, and streets
lined with charming galleries alongside quaint
shops and cafes. The American dream does exist, and it exists
surrounded by over three million acres of national
forest and other natural wonders in Silver City, New Mexico.
Grant County has the most temperate climate in the state, with high temperatures rarely approaching 100 degrees, and winter lows 20 degrees or more. This is the reason for "four gentle seasons," and offers the best of all possible worlds. No wonder Silver City has been called "one of America's best small towns," with 350-plus days of sunshine, any season is the right time of year to explore all that Grant County has to offer.
The Gila National
Forest will beckon you with its lofty spaces of light, mountains,
and bright sky. The forest includes the nation's first wilderness area, the Gila
Wilderness , as well as the Aldo Leopold and Blue Wilderness areas.
An
extensive system of trails offers pleasant hikes through cool forested
mountains or along shady streams. Backpackers
will find plenty of beautiful, wild, and remote country for long trips
in quiet solitude. Day hikers will find good trails and
many opportunities for pleasant exploration and wildlife viewing.
