William H. Evans seems to have been married at an early age, but widowed by the time he was 36. His wife, Henrietta, and children no longer appear in census records after 1910, which shows him living with his parents as a widower.

Josiah "Joe" RODGERS

Also Known As:<_AKA> Joe Rodgers
Joseph Rodgers was supposedly part Cherokee Indian, according to his daughter Mary Ellen. He made his living by selling his herbal remedies to the folks around Warrenton. He was born in Wake County, North Carolina, born Josiah Rogers, where he was one of 10 children of Nathaniel and Edie Rogers. He married at least 2 times: Adeline was his 1st wife, with which they had a daughter named Mary; and then later to Mary Evans, who was the daughter of Martha Caudle/Cordle and James Evans. With Mary Evans he had: Lucy 1904-1993, Joseph 1906-1974, Mary 1908-1994, Queen Esther 1910, John Baptist 1912-1983, and Hettie 1915-1980. In a later relationship he had a younger daughter named Naomi who is known as Naomi Blue b.1938. Joe died in 1952.

262. Martha RODGERS

Martha Rodgers married Plummer Williams. She died in childbirth shortly after 1920, and she never had any children.

112. Nannie SNEED

Nannie Sneed was the child of two people who were themselves products of mixed heritages. Her father had a total of at least 3 wives, Nannie's mother was his 2nd or 3rd wife (depending on acknowledgment of his early first marriage) Mary Frances Green. Nannie's father was Walter Sneed, the son of a rich landowner who also owned many slaves and the slave named Nancy, from the Sneed Plantation, in what was then Granville County,North Carolina. Mary Frances Green was a descendant of Thomas Green, who was freed by his slave owner in 1791, and all indications point to him as being the son of that same owner, Samuel Wiliams. How ironic it is that Nannie named her youngest son for two of his ancestors, one from each side. Nannie was born May 19, 1892 in Halifax County. Her mother died at a young age and Nannie married Robert Williams in 1909. They lived mostly in Warren County, until their later years when both became ill and lived at times in Boston, MA and Queens, NY with various of their children. There were 10 children who survived to adulthood:Edgar, Robert Leslie, Willie Royster, John Thomas, Francis Marion, Alonzo Eugene, Nathaniel Cleotha, Samuel Sneed, Julia Myre, and Ruth Mae Williams. Nannie was in Warrenton NC when she died Aug 19, 1978. She was buried Aug 24, 1978 at Shocco Baptist Church, in Warrenton, NC.

Robert J. WILLIAMS

Robert Williams was the son of former slaves, Hubbard Williams and Julia Davis. He was born in Warren County in Fork Township, on 9/18/1885.(On the 1900 census says he was born 3/1886). He had at least 5 siblings and 6 half- siblings: Hubbard Jr., (who died at age 3 in 1880), Minnie,Eddie, LulaBelle(China), and Frank, who were full siblings; John, Paul, Mary, Milton, Luke and Martha, half-siblings that had been born by Hubbard and his first wife, Harriet Williams, a fellow slave he had married in 1848. Robert married Nannie Sneed, in 1909. They lived in and around Warren County for most of their life until Robert had a stroke. They then lived with various of their children in Boston, MA and Queens, NY for a number of years. Robert died on Sept 8, 1970 at 85 years old in St. Albans, Queens, New York. He was buried in Warrenton NC at Shocco Baptist Church Cemetery. He left behind his ten children that he and Nannie had during their long marriage: Edgar, Robert Leslie, Willie Royster, John Thomas, Francis Marion, Alonzo Eugene, Nathaniel Cleotha, Samuel Sneed, Julia Myre, and Ruth Mae.
