Modern Agriculture is a multi-authored book edited by Dr. Price.  For the cattleman, especially good in the practical aspects of finance, accounting and risk management.  Put in a real world setting, the main theme is to teach the farm or ranch manager how to survive financially.
    On the production side, there are very clear and easy to read basic chapters on agronomy; soils; fertilizers; field crop practices; feeds and feeding; genetics; animal reproduction; animal breeding; forage crops; poultry production; swine production; dairy production; and beef production.  There is even a very useful section on aquaculture or fish farming.  It is divided into the following four book sections.
Book I
Agricultural Finance Business and 
Economics

A straight forward, no-holds-barred treatise on bankers, banking and real-life survival in farm and ranch management. The reader is taught not only how to apply for and obtain loans, but how to manage the risk that accompanies financing. Supporting chapters include accounting, economics and marketing.
The Futures Market. Also included in the business section is a very practical guide to the mechanics of the future's market. The advantages, disadvantages, and the more common "wrecks" that can occur are analyzed and explained.
 

Book III 
Feeds and Feeding

A condensed version of a soon to be released text, Practical Animal Feeds, Feeding and Nutrition by senior author Dr. Price is provided. This abbreviated version totally dispenses with unnecessary chemistry and theory, and concentrates on practical application. The reader is taught how to evaluate feeds, process those feeds, and then prepare them into rations for the various livestock species.
An especially good section on forages discusses how to visually analyze quality differences in hay and silages. Further, the reader is given solid, practical information on how to properly harvest and preserve hay and silages.

Book II
Agronomy
An exceptionally good, easy to read background in soils, fertilizer and fertilizer management, soil conservation practices, irrigation, tillage, entomology and related subjects: After this background, subsequent chapters on field crops, tree crops, tropical agriculture and dry land agriculture are provided. By far the largest portion of the text, the Agronomy section provides the reader with a very practical, yet in-depth understanding of crop production.
Book IV
Livestock Production
Private consultants and university specialists provide practical, how-to management information for beef cattle, dairy cattle, sheep, swine and poultry. Supporting chapters on animal reproduction, breeding and genetics are provided.

Aquaculture (Fish Farming). In addition to conventional animal agriculture, an introduction to aquaculture, the newest form of livestock production is provided
