At face value, this book is an anthology of consulting transcripts and trade journal articles. Much more than that, the real value is as a source of bottom line information. Virtually every subject and/or problem the cattle producer must face is covered in this book. Covered in an easy to read and expeditious manner.
In conventional texts the reader would have to wade through volumes of unrelated material, often academic in nature. In this book, the reader need only read 2 or 3 pages of highly relevant, practical and to the point information. In a matter of minutes the reader can learn what would take hours or even days of literature research.
Even more important, many subjects covered in this book cannot even be found in conventional texts. A consultant with an enormous amount of experience to draw on; in many cases the author has outlined and discussed problems that are highly important to the producer, yet cannot even be found in textbooks written for classroom or other academic use.
No-nonsense straight talk from a well known consultant. All Dr. Price's published works, plus never before published
discussions, deemed too hard hitting or controversial
for the trade press. Never before published works include:

Reducing Supplemental Feeding Costs

Taken from contract seminars
given by Dr. Price on a consulting basis;
this discussion shows ranchers how to save thousands of dollars in unnecessary supplemental feed. Ranchers are taught how to evaluate when grass does or does not need supplementation (without laboratory analysis). Cow-calf producers are taught when supplementation will and will not affect conception and subsequent calf crop. Stocker operators are taught how much gain can be influenced by supplemental feed and how to figure the return on a cost of gain basis.
Real-life common examples of how ranchers spend money unnecessarily or inefficiently are explained in remarkable clarity. Examples that virtually every rancher or stock farmer will recognize, are used as a means to figure bottom line costs, and avoid unnecessary expenditures.

Feedlot Management

Contracted by the U.S. Feed Grains Council, in cooperation with the FAO (Food and Agriculture Organization) of the United Nations, Dr. Price produced a very concise yet detailed handbook of feedlot management. Never before published, this series lays out the details of feedlot management that even the most experienced cattle feeder will find useful. Of particular interest to farmer feeders, is a
section on how to produce vitamin, mineral and feed additive premixes without the aid of a commercial feedmill.

How to Select a Veterinarian
Deemed too hard hitting for the trade press, this series discusses the inadequacies of most veterinarians in general practice. More importantly, the producer is taught how to evaluate a truly knowledgeable and useful veterinarian. The subject of fees, and how to avoid paying excessive fees through conflict of interest medicine sales are discussed. A highly controversial, yet valuable discussion.
Reducing Shipping Fever Death Loss
A great deal of Dr. Price's private consulting practice is with backgrounding operations  . . . some receiving calves as light as 200 lbs. Known by clients for being able to "turn wrecks around", the reader will find very clear and easy to read information on how to prevent "wrecks".
