Paul B. Wilson has lived a life steeped in the New Mexican Artistic Tradition. As a young painter he was befriended by the early greats, Fremont Ellis and Josef Bakos, and he has carried on the legacy of the Cincos Pintores of Santa Fe for over thirty years.
As a boy he worked seven years for the legendary Indian Trader, Al Packard. The depth of Paul's understanding of the material culture of the Native People of his home state is renowned in those circles.
Woodrow Wilson Fine Arts, for many years one of the best galleries in Santa Fe, was owned and operated by his father, who is in Santa Fe painting now. His sister Carole Wilson was an expert dealer of fine works on paper.
Bring up nearly anyone who's big in the world of New Mexican Art and Paul can probably tell you a story about them. Some of those stories are VERY funny. They have been his friends and his teachers, they have shared a love of this place and of the creation of the startling and new.
