| HO CHI MINH CITY, VIETNAM - A worker applies
finishing touches to the elaborate gate in front of Ho Chi Minh City's Presidential Palace
April 29 on the eve of the 25th anniversary of the ending of the Vietnam war, as a
portrait of the late communist leader Ho Chi Minh can be seen behind. The gates were
crushed by North Vietnamese army tanks on April 30, 1975 which signalled the end of
U.S.-led occupation of southern Vietnam. Visiting American war veteran John McCain has
touched the nerves of Vietnam April 28 by saying that the wrong side won the Vietnam War.
