Bel Air High School in El Paso, Texas has had a pipe band for over 30 years. The band has only recently started competing and will make at least one out of town trip a year. Being a school band with scholastic obligations they are limited in travel but they will reciprocate as best they can. They have 16 pipers and 7 drums and expect to have over 35 pipers and 10 drummers in their parade band within 2 years. The graduating pipe major received a $62,000 scholarship to Lyon College in Batesville, Ark. The program has an association with St. Thomas and Hamilton Band in Houston,Tx. This year they will also start middle school students on the practice chanter at all feeder schools.
