The observatory lies in the Lincoln National Forest in the Sacramento
Mountains (in New Mexico, USA), which offer hiking trails, views of the
Tularosa Basin (including White Sands National Monument).

Cloudcroft
- is a small mountain village located about 45 miles from
Ruidoso. It sits at 9000' and is worth a side trip. Pictured at right:

lodge was constructed in 1899 as a haven where visitors could escape
