James and Beth at Grand Canyon, on a cold day in 1970. James wrote the songs on this album in the early 1970's, and performed them in many of the intimate little restaurants and winery tasting rooms of Sonoma County, California, in the heart of the wine country north of San Francisco. He speaks of them as "metaphysical hippie love songs" expressing the hopefulness and idealism of that most seductive decade with their plaintive melodies and the romantic imagery of their lyrics. These songs were recorded live in solo performances made about 1980.

The orchestrated version of "Here I Fall" which is used as the Music page theme song (and which is included as a bonus on the album), was recorded about 1983, arranged and performed by Harry Beckett.
