Naples Florida, May 19, 2000

The American Cancer Society in Naples Florida "Relay for Life" fund raiser theme was "Somewhere Over the Rainbow'. Representatives of the event contacted me to create a rainbow. The relay is a 24 hour marathon fund raiser that began with a group of over 500 cancer survivors walking around the track. My dear friend Mike Bass was one of the survivors. The rainbow entitled Mike's rainbow was in honor of Mike being found cancer free after major surgery and therapy.

When the group reached the far side of the track there was a giant rainbow waitining for them. I saw these people not as survivors but as warriors. For it is in their courage that a cure for cancer will be found. The event raised over $150,000. for research. I am still very moved by the energy of the wonderful community of Naples.

The next day a morning rainbow was created over the field. Nickelodean, the kids channel covered the event and televised a piece on the Rainbow Maker and the relay on july 2.
