On January 20, 1999 the representatives of the Colorado River Tribes came to Juarez Mexico to request the support of the Mexican Government and Mexican indiginous peoples to assist them in theri plea to stop a nuclear dump site from being placed on their sacred land. They were met by not only federal and City Officials but  by representatives of several of the Mexican Indiginous Tribes.

Why Juarez? The people of the state of Juarez through activity political demonstartion stopped a nuclear dump site from being pulaced in Sierra Blanca, TexaS  near the Mexican Border the year before.

The gathering opened with a rainbow over the statue of Benito Juarez. In addition to conference participants. local school children came to see and enjoy the rainbow. The Juarez Fire Department brought out a single firetruck carrying about 700 gallons of water since there waqs no fire hydrant in close proximity to the site.
