The Program
Our lesson program is based on the fundamentals of classical hunt seat riding, with an emphasis on safety and fun. We start at the beginning with horse handling, grooming and tacking up, and proceed to the basics of equitation, including correct body position, communication and technique. Our riders learn to be strong, effective and attractive on the back of a horse. We move from basic flat work (walk, trot, canter) to jumping when the rider is mentally and physically ready. We encourage open communication and enjoy your questions and comments about the learning process. Of course safety is our top priority, and the program is second to none in safety of both riders and horses.

Our goal is to teach you to ride well enough to compete at horse shows, and we encourage you to try this exciting sport. If you don’t want to show, that’s ok too. We have a number of fun activities that will test your skills and progress. Just being in the Red Sky environment will help you become a better horseman (or woman) and a better rider. Private lessons are recommended, but semi-privates are available if another rider is at your level. Rates for all lessons are $45.00.

The Schooling Horses
We use only tried and true safe lesson horses for our students. Currently our string consists of Sunny, a 20-year-old Thoroughbred gelding who is a treat to ride and teaches with patience and a great attitude. Also teaching lessons is a wonderful Appendix Quarter Horse mare named Starshine, or Stella. She was skin and bones when we got her here, and now she's a beautiful, kind and safe lesson horse. All of our schooling horses are healthy, happy, and properly tacked up for the safest, most advantageous ride.

The Arenas
We have two arenas available and both are regularly maintained for excellent footing. Both rings are fully enclosed, and the "big red arena" has a full hunt course, complete with flowers, colored poles, roll tops and walls. We rarely have more than one or two riders in a ring at one time, with a minimum of distraction. This arena has lights for riding after dark!
