Susie Whelpley

Susie Whelpley, head trainer and advanced instructor, has over 30 years of competitive riding and training experience. She is a technician and turns out beautiful, correct riders and happy horses. She comes from a long line of teachers and coaches who enjoy being with the students and challenging them. If you’re ready to jump, Susie will open the door for you in a fun environment. "Being an equitation rider myself, I still love the look of a beautiful and correct rider on a classically turned-out horse. If a rider wants to capture that feeling of being one with the horse, and doing it in a way that's beautiful to watch, then we can guide you in the right direction. Oh--we also never scream or yell, I promise you that!"

A graduate of New Mexico State University, Susie has turned out hunt seat riders and horses in Las Cruces since 1986, for years being the only hunt seat trainer in the whole southern half of the state. She regularly judges both small and large shows, and is a proud USEF member for over 20 years. Her specialties are starting green horses, fixing scared ones, and bringing adult riders to impressive levels both mentally and physically.

Judy Westfall

Judy Westfall, instructor and assistant barn manager, graduated from the SUNY at Morrisville in New York, where she earned a degee in horse management and picked up a classical riding, training, and horse handling background. She’s warm, friendly and fun to be with. She starts the beginners and intermediate riders correctly and in a stress-free environment. She’s quick with a smile and a word of praise and makes the whole experience pleasant, whether you’re a child, an active young rider, or an adult. With Judy you'll know how to wrap legs correctly (all three ways!), lunge competently, tack up efficiently, care for your leather expertly, and communicate with your horse like a professional.

Judy is experienced with all sorts of riders' physical weaknesses and injuries, and is well-versed in both medicinal and natural remedies. She knows a little bit about everything, and can script a full maintenance program for you and your horse, everything from supplements and grooming aids to organization of your riding times and biorhythms. And she's a great listener!

Both Susie and Judy are hands-on teachers who never sit around and just watch you ride. You'll get personalized attention every time you ride.
