Integrated into the historical downtown,

that share a common courtyard
behind the restored 25’ brick façade.

The property for sale is noted as 'Parcel B' on the plat.

HISTORY

The original building use was as the A.S. Goodell Warehouse and Feed Store located at 214 Yankie Street. Built in 1911 by Silver City building contractor Elizabeth Warren, the warehouse bridged the space between Goodell’s hay and grain store to the west and a Chinese grocery store to the east. Side walls of these neighboring buildings were tied together with the brick warehouse façade.

With the purchase in 1994 by the current owners, an extensive preservation and reconstruction effort was begun to restore the building and the façade to its original appearance.  After a cooperative venture that teamed the Silver City Main Street Corp. with the owners/developers of the building, the renovated façade was completed in 1996 and awarded the New Mexico Main Street Best Buildings Award for 1995.  It was also the first building in New Mexico with a designated deed of easement to preserve an historic façade.

While digging a trench for the concrete footers inside the courtyard, ceramic soy vessels and tiny glass opium vials were discovered underground.  Donated to the Silver City Museum, they have become part of the city’s permanent historical collection.  The original 7500 sq. ft. building has been divided into two separate properties (Suites ‘A’ and ‘B’) that share a courtyard fronted by the 25’ original brick facade.  Suite ‘B’ is currently being used as a contemporary studio/exhibition space and apartment and is being offered for sale.
