    The Ruidoso Downs Police Department has been in existence for more than __ years . In the very early days  the Ruidoso Downs Police Department was staffed by one officer who was better known as the  (Town Marshal).

 

From the one person Department of then, the Department has evolved into one with a staff 8 full time officers today. The Department is commanded by  Chief of Police David Hightower who is responsible for the administration of the Department and the management of its mission. The Chief is also responsible for the overall guidance and direction of the Police Department various Divisions.

This is done through planning, acquisition of monies within or beyond the budgetary dollars, instituting and evaluating policies and procedures to produce and maintain an acceptable level of effectiveness, and assuring that accountability is maintained in all aspects of the Department's work functions. Chief Hightower was appointed in 1994 by Mayor Hayhurst and the Village Council.

    The  next officer is Sergeant Dana Terlecky. He is responsible for overseeing the daily operations of the Department. The Department has three shifts.  These shifts are charged with responding to calls for service, investigating crime, apprehension of criminals, crime prevention, traffic enforcement and investigation, and miscellaneous services. Officer Terlecky has been with the Ruidoso Downs Police Department for 9 years.

The Department officers and personnel are, Corporal Chris "Corkey" Condon, Officer Robert "Dock" Olshaskie, Officer Ken Arther, Officer Grant Lipscomb, Officer Kelly Calicoat, and Officer Steven Dobbs. There are four Dispatchers for the Department, Cyndi Miller, Byron Starnes, AnnElla Dullea and Lori Carpenter.
