Tammy's Rainbow--
That's MSM ("My Sainted Mother" and me holding up the
quilt. Mama had this pattern she wanted to make -- "Jacks' Chain". GREAT. We
decided to make TWO. We'd each make enough 9-patches for a quilt, and
she'd give me half of hers, and I'd give her half of mine. We did that
(although I finished mine first).
I cut the snowballs and the set-together triangles, and took the
9-patches, snowballs and triangles to a retreat. Had NO problem putting
the "wheels" together. Took those to the next retreat to put the top
together, and I started to cuss. After about 3 hours, it occurred to me
that this was NOT fun, when I was frustrated, angry, and swearing.
Mama took it and finished the top. I machine-quilted it, using my
sorta-self-taught "Harriet" technique (and Mama's Bernina).
This one went to be adorable daughter-in-law Tammy (who understandably
wasn't wild about the DARK "Aurora Borealis" which was ostensibly Mark
and Tam's wedding present, but is really Mark's quilt — so, "Aurora" is
their "winter" quilt, and "Rainbow" is their "summer" quilt).
Oh. The pretzel atop the unquilted top is Slick, one of my Quilt
Inspectors. Slick is clearly pronouncing this one a GOOD quilt.
