Mirage--
Yellow, blue and white are not only the colors of the Provencal, they
figure very much in the Southwest -- including the glazed Mexican
tiles. I had long thought of making a yellow, blue and white quilt,
and I finally got to it (and yes, this is a series of several log cabin
quilts I've made). I had quite a collection of white-on-whites,
yellows, and blues, so off I went, using up some of those 1 1/2" strips
I cut from each piece of fabric I beg, borrow, buy or steal. As I put
the blocks together in the off-center "barn raisin'" set, I got to
thinking about my beloved New Mexico desert on a white-hot day -- so hot
the landscape wriggles beneath a merciless sun, set in the indescribable
blue of the New Mexico sky -- and the puddles of "water" one sees in the
mirage on such a breathless day. I haven't been able to part with this
one, either.
