1892 Diary

January 1892
fri 1 i went after wood but came home without eny fetched 2 slay runners there being so much snow that i could not fetch a load
sat 2 i made my slay
sun 3 i went to sanford in my slay
mon 4 i went to see will jucks to get what was comeing to me and stayed with that night
tus 5 started to Conjos to mill but could not get my grist came back sanford and stoped with john tomeson and got a bellows
and some of other blacksmith tools
wen 6 i came home late with my grist and fetched a bellows with me which i got of j temson
fri 8 i went after wood with my slay
sat 9 my wife went to sanford in the slay and i stayed home and kept house
thi 14 helped rile ownes thrash
sun 17 tended meeting in eastdale
tus 19 helped ephram ½ day and las mortenson ½ day
wen 20 helped r mikelson part of the day and lars part
thi 21 helped R Mikleson till noon and merian mortenson till night
tus 26 made wheat bin till noon in the afternoon we had the thrashers i raised 195
bushels wheat otes and barely
thi 28 Brother Dunn and I went after wood together
sat 30 i went after wood with Bro Dunn

February 1892
mon 1 i did not do eny thing because the wether being so bad i could not work and i felt so sore in the brest
sun 7 tended meeting in eastdale
mon 8 i and Brother Dunn went up on the crick and sawed a large cotten wood down for wood
thi 11 i was going after wood but it was to cold
sat 13 i was going after wood but broke my wagon as i started it being froze to the ground
fri 19 i went to costilla to by the tires for my wagon
sat 20 i went after wood
sun 21 i did not go to meeting for i went to costilla to pay for the tires
wed 24 i went after wood again
thi 25 i left home to go to Platore to work rode as far as sanford the first night
fri 26 i went to Manassa to try to get a chance to ride up but found none
sat 27 i left sanford with about 50 Ibs on my back walked till sun one hour high and was give out i went to a mexicans house to leave some of my load
when i came to his place he invited me to stay the night i did so the a thankful hart
sun 28 morning got up and left one of my quilts and started on my jorney i don one the hardest days walking
i have ever done i came late to my brother place
mon 29 i helped my brother saw wood

March 1892
tus 1 we went to stunner to get work but got non
wed 2 feeling very tired i did not work my brother washed
thi 3 i helped Elisha saw wood in town
sat 5 sawed in the timber
sun 6 i rested
mon 7 i chored in town till noon in the afternoon sawed in the timber
wed 9 i filed saws all day
thi 10 sawed in the timber
wed 16 snowed all day no work
thi 17 sawed wood in the timber
fri 18 i chored in town made 75¢ Elisha sick
sat 19 split wood all day
sun 20 set in the house all day because it snowed all day
mon 21 still snowing Elisha helped wash and i chored in town made $.90
tu 22 i workeu in the timber
fri 25 i made redy to go home
sat 26 started for home my brother Elisha came down the Conejos came about 5
miles on snowshoes then traveling til dark camping without beding next morning
came to Brother Masseas at noon being snow blind we sat in the house all day
mon 28 my eyes feeling better i started for home came home about dark found all well
tus 29 don nothing
wed 30 i chored around home plastering the house

April 1892
sun 3 i tended meeting in eastdale
mon 4 i started to platro to get my beding and anvil with my team snowed all day
wed 6 i came to my brothers place about dark
thi 7 went back to my team and went down to norlins place
fri 8 came as far as John Tomsen
sat 9 came home
sun 10 no meeting
mon 11 i worked at the blacksmithing for the first time in my life for myself
tus 12 started to ---- on jensens land
thi 14 worked on the publick canal
sat 16 mare fan brought a colt i worked at black smithing in the forenoon afternoon burned brush
mon 18 made a clevis and sharpend 4 drils burned brush afternoon
tus 19 i worked at blacksmithing
wed 20 i plowed
thi 21 worked plowing on my land that i got of jenson
fri 22 fixed horse mortenson plow to youse it because i had no shere for mine
sat 23 i took a grist to sanlions mill came home that night
mon 25 i worked on the farm clearing brush and plowing and sowing

May 1892
mon 2 i started to watter my wheat worked at clearing brush sowing up till the 7
wed 4 i went to costilla to settle up with mires i took 907 pounds of otes to him to pay on my debt still
owing 31.42¢ for which i gave him my note till october
sat 7 i finished wattering my wheat
tus 10 i went up jensons after potatos to plant and went down and. started planted potatos and corn
thi 12 i cleared of land for barley sowed fri and sat
sun 15 i did not go to meeting
mon 16 i planted potatos
tus 17 i plowed land for otes brother Dunns boy helped me
thi 19 my wife gave birth to a boy and girl the girl being the oldest the boy did not live but to hours the boy i
blessed and we gave the name of Willam henry the girl we named dorthah who was blessed by simeon a Dunn and myself
on the 19 of may 1892
fri 20 we buried our boy
sat 21 i fineshed plowing the first 5 of my otes
tus 24 i hunted for my cow and found her
wed. 25 i helped A Mortenson make adobies and he ferrowed. the first 5 of my otes out
thi 26 the canal broke out on my otes and me and w. worked hard. all day to fix it
fri 27 i worked. for A Mortenson
sat 28 i was down with the measels and 2 of the children

Jun 1892
thi 2 i got up and walkeda round
fri 3 i made ready to plant the rest of my potatos
sat 4 planted jensons potatos
sun 5 i did not go to meeting
mon 6 i fineshed planting potatos and beans
tus 7 i started to watter my otes
thi 9 wattered till noon and then started. to platoro to see if i could get some money for the wood. i cut
last winter got as far as masses on the river
fri 10 i came to platoro about sun set
sat 11 i went up on the mountain to find elisha for he was working on a mine i found all of them well
sun 12 i started for home and stoped at Brother masses
mon 13 i got home
tus 14 i worked for A Mortensen for plowing makeing adobies
fri 17 molded 12 hundred ½ day
sat 18 started to watter my wheat and barely and make fence for W. for plowing
mon 20 i worked on bills fence and tended the water
fri 24 i worked merian mortenson ½ day between 12 and 1 oclock i witnesed the hardest hail storm that i ever beheld
thi 30 i went to the ute mountain to look for a gold mine but found nun and started to watter my potatos

July 1892
fri 1 i wattered my wheat and barley until the 7 and work on the publick fence in our field moofeing it
fri 8 i went to Conjos to mill came home 9
mon 11 i started to watter my otes and took a strean
wed 13 ther was no watter in my ditch and fred bently took the watter for main
thi 14 i worked on the publick fence again
fri 15 i worked on the milk seler
sat 16 i my mare fell and made redy to go to Platoro to get some rock asayed for A Mortenson and went about 10 miles
sun 17 i camped in the Donejos canyon at the live kiln
mon 18 i got to platore 11 oclock but could not get the rock trided
tus 19 i helped my brother till the 23 work on a mine which he had 1/3 interest in
wed 20 i found that my mare had left me i took one biscut in my pocket and started to hunt her
thi 21 i hunted till night but could not find her
fri 22 i helped Elisha on his mine my feet being so badly blisterd i could not hunt
sun 24 i started for home and hunted for my mare on the rode
mon 25 i was so sore that i could not walk so i stayed with Brother dire
tus 26 i came home
wed 27 i fixed for going down to red river with A mortenson to look at his mine and prospect
fri 19 we came home
wed 10 i went back to rea river to work for A mortenson on his mine
sun 14 tended meeting in Eastdale
mon 15 i went down to questa with A mortenson on his mine
thi 18 me and s hollman worked the assesment on the yankey
fri 19 worked ½ day and in the afternoon we moved to the pueblo mine which A mortenson and f b forbes and willem bush had bought from Pane
sat 20 worked for them

fri 26 no work for all the men had left the mine and gone home the same day bush left i found a mine which i named the blue bell
sat 27 i don nothing

mon 29 i located the Blue Bell

thi 1 i started to hunt for my mare just west of Antoneto
sat 3 i stayed at my brothers at platoro
sun 4 i started home i could not find my mare Elisha came home with me i got a mare of him to work this winter
wed 7 me and Elisha went down to questa i went down to get my wagon tixed my barely was cut by a mortenson
thi 8 i hawled a load of wood to burn coal of
fri 9 i got my black smithing dun
sat 10 came home with 20 poles
sun 11 i tended meeting in Eastdale
mon 12 i fixed for getin my wheat cut leveling the ditches
tus 13 i followed the mechine in leveling ditches and shocking up
wed 14 i finished shocking up my wheat
thi 15 i shocked-up otes for S hollman in the forenoon in the afternoon i and simey
dunn halled menure out of bill Luelens stackyard

mon 19 i went down to questa to get some flour but got nun
tus 20 located the analorie mine for Elisha
wed 21 cut some stuff for to make a rack of and came home
thi 22 i worked on my rack in the forenoon and in the afternoon i helped to thrash and i got 6 buchel of wheat of A mortenson
fri 23 i fineshed my rack
sat 24 i hawled barely
sun 25 i went to the ute mountain to pick mine nuts

tus 27 i cut otes on the led ditches and plowed them in
wed 28 i made 500 adobes and hawled a load wheat
fri 30 i made 200 adobes and helped jenson move his houses down

October 1892
sat 1 i hawled the last of my wheat
mon 3 i shocked up otes for myself
tus 4 i hawled barley for myself
wed 5 i hade 150 adobes and haled the rest barley
thi 6 i helped simey dunn hawl wheat in the forenoon on the afternoon i helped Wm. hawl wheat sat 8 i helped him thrash
mon 10 fineshed thrashing about 10 oclock in the afternoon i shocked up otes for myself
wed 12 bad wether the first snow
thi 13 i helped simey dunn thrash
fri 14 i plowed potatos
mon 17 i dug potatos for myself in the forenoon in afternoon i helped jenson on lewelly thrashing acount to pay for straw i bot of him
tus 18 i hawled my otes and jenson helped me
wed 19 i helped jenson work on his stack yard and hawl one lode of otes
thi 20 hawled otes for jenson
fri 21 i went to the ute mountain after poles
sat 22 i went again and three logs for the meeting house one 18ft 2 27ft green logs and some poles
mon 24 i plowed the rest of my potatos
tus 25 i halled a load of straw in the forenoon in the afternoon i helped christen jenson hawl the last of his otes
wed 26 i started to line his house with adobies which i took for 4 dollers being cold wether I could not work at it onley part of the day and the rest of the time i worked on my stable
sat 29 Brother jenson and i started at 3 oclock in the morning to to to the Seventies meeting in Sanford i was there chosen to take charge of the class meeting at Eastdale with b morse to help me
sun 30 i came home
mon 31 i started to shingle his house which i took for 3 doller

November 1892
wed 2 it stormed and i worked on my stable
thi 3 i fineshed it on the north side
fri 4 i started to shingle and then a land meeting was cald to see what we could do
sat 5 i went to the ute mountain after poles and fetched to logs for the meeting house
sun 6 tended meeting in Eastdale
mon 7 i worked jenson laying adobies in his house
tus 8 i worked on his house
thi 10 i fineshed shingeling his house and made to chimneys
fri 11 i went ester wood and fetched 1 log for C jensonfor the meeting house for which i get 75.¢ sat 12 i helped Ephraim mortenson lay adobies in his house till noon in the afternoon I planed some mop bords for jenson house
sun 13 tended meeting in Eastdale
mon 14 i helped work on the wall at Jensons in the forenoon in the afternoon i helped Ephraims mortenson on his house
tus 15 i put mop boards in jensons house in the forenoon in afternoon i workea for ephraims mortenson
fri 18 i helped rile ownes move his house it took all day with 12 span of horses Elisha came to my house and sed he had got a letter from his wife stateing that she and family was all sick
Sat 19 we started for plaltoro camped at conejos bridge
sun 20 we got to platoro 2 oclock at night
tus 22 started for eastdale with my brother family to move them to red river camped at capalean wed 23 came to eastdale at 8 oclock
thi 24 i dun nothing but chore around home
fri 25 i went after wood for myself
sat 26 i built a forge to blacksmith in at the end of my house
sun 27 i did not go to meeting because my brothers famely was sick
mon 28 i worked at blacksmithing making chains
wed 30 i was but rode up with brother Dunn to Costilla after shack to pay on my debt

thi 1 i was sick and did not work onley part of the day
fri 2 i worked at blacksmithing and set a fire for f bently
sat 3 i fineshed the fore by noon and in the afternoon i worked at blacksmithing for myself

wed 7 i made a dore for Brother Funk and made redy to go up to Platoro after my brother things

fri 9 camped on hot crick with a mexician which treted me kindly

sun 11 was my birthday but i loded up
mon 12 brother herian and i started for eastdale

fri 23 i thrashed and in the afternoon i loaded up to go to sanford after my wife who had been over to see our Mary of on the train for utah to go and see her granma
sat 24 i went and stoped at j.c.Berthelson

wed 28 i loaded up otes and wheat to go to mill the otes i sold for money to pay on my land
