1894 Diary

January 1894
mon 1 we had our new years party in F. M. mortenson house
tus 2 i went and square up with A Mortenson made chimney
wed 3 i got a letter from Joseph Smith with my Brother Joseph Clapp adress in it
(Elijah had written to Joseph Smith, son of the Prophet, who was President of the Reorganized church,
asking him .for the address of Joseph Clapp, his half brother, who was a missionary in the Hawaiian
Islands. The correspondence will be added at the end of this journal)
thi 4 i made redy to go to sanford with a load of posts for Tomy Crowther to pay on fan one of my horses
fri 5 i went to sandford with 58 posts for Tomey Crowther
sat 6 hunted around to get a brick job for next summer i got a job of makeing 100,000 brick for will Crowther and Co.
sun7 tended meeting in Sanford
mon 8 i got 385 lbs of wheat of W. H. Burby on brick work 210 lbs of potatos of W.O. Crowther and 50c of otes straw i took 255 lbs of wheat to the mill
tus 9 came home with 127 lbs of flower
sun 14 i was sick layed in bed till about noon
mon 15 i sent a letter to Joseph Clapp my half brother and went to the savmill to urne some lumber of Mr. Clark
tus 16 sawed 12 logs
sat 20 we had our logs scaled and they went 25.35 feet and then came home i got a pare of overhawls we got 3100 per thousand for sawing
sun 21 tended meeting in Eastdale
mon 22 i helped Brother Dunn kill a pig and choped wood for C Jenson ½ day
tus 23 went to the mill (cut logs all week)
sat 27 i fineshed fileing Mr. Clarks saw which was wore out i had to file new teath in it
sun 28 we went over to the old mill sire to get some flour and Simey Dun Came down and told us that juney mortenson was ded came home at 11 oclock that night
mon 29 tended the funel Brother Albert Smith and John Henery (Smith) was present tended meeting the evening and seen Eastdale organise
Brother Funk was chosen to be our Bishop Brotber Dunn first counsler Ephraim Mortenson second Counsler
tus 30 tended meeting in the forenoon and Brother John Henry gave some good instruction to the oficers of this ward

February 1894
thi 1 went to the mill
fri 2 cut 29 logs with Simey (cut logs all week)
fri 9 it snowed all day and we was waiting for Simey to come and take us home but he did not come cut 4 logs
sat 10 came home with Ephraim mortenson
mon 12 I killed our pig and made redy to go to Sanford
tus 13 went to Sanford after straw and grist
wed 14 tended the furnel of gorge urven wife
thi 15 went to the mill and from ther to Eastdale with 215 Ibs of flower
mon 19 cut 40 logs tus 34 logs wed 31 logs
thi 22 snowed all day
fri 23 started to work for the day on the mill but set in to snowing and in the afternoon came home with A Mortenson
sat 24 i went after wood
sun 25 tended meeting in Eastdale
mon 26 went down to the mill
tus cut 30 logs
wed cut 30 logs

March 1894
tus 1 cut 12 logs in the forenoon in the after noon we worked on a bunk house
fri 2 worked on the bunk house in the afternoon cut 18 logs
sun 4 spent sunday at the mill
mon 5 cut 31 logs (cut logs all week)
sat 10 came home
sun 12 i helped Rile ownes kill cow in the forenoon in the afternoon i made redy and went to the sawmill
tus 13 started. to drag in logs
fri 16 drug logs in to the mill
sat 17 came home with 550 feet of lumber for myself
sun 18 tended. meeting in eastdale
mon 19 i went to Sanford and got a load of straw of C C Fredrikson 103 lbs of otes of W.H. Curby 281 lbs of wheat
of Jorge morgen 200 lbs of otes of W.O. Crowther i got this for brick i am to make in june and i got 100 1bs of
wheat of Peter Peterson on what he owed me
tus 20 came home to oclock at night it was a very cold night snowed
wed 21 it being very cold i set in the house and filed saws
thi 22 i and Dunn went of to the canal to shut the water off and keep it from runing on our land
fri 23 we all turned out to make a hed gate furnisbed 5 logs and 42 feet of lumber and 24 for riles ownes on wood choping for c. jenson
sun 25 tended meeting in Eastdale
mon 26 i worked at blacksmithing for myself and limed wheat for sowing got 50 Ibs of vlor of Wm Funk
27 sowed and harrowed 5 acres
fri 30 joseph fer and i worked on the canal ½ day

April 1894
sun 1 no meeting
tus 3 i went to 5anford and traded with Jesse Mortenson i got for nell one bay horse one rone colt for her i got of C C Fredrikson 100 Ibs of otes and harrow 300
wed 4 i for the mill and 106 Ibs of flour
thi 5 i lade in bed all day
fri 6 i ferrowed out part of the day and plowed ditches the rest
sun 8 tended meeting in Eastdale
mon 9 i sowed and harrowed and ferrowed out another pease of wheat
tus 10 i started to the mill to get lumber to pay for my hay
wed 11 i drug one log in and broke a single tree the log broke my little fingure on my right hand
thi 12 came part of the way home with a lame horse
sat 14 i went to calavery with the lumber
sun 15 tended meeting in Eastdale
tus 17 worked in the garden and plowed ditches
wed 18 i sowed 5 acres of otes and harrowed it
thi 26 i worked at getting otes reddy to--- and put in 5 hours on canal by the side of my land
fri 27 i C jenson to sow 5 actes of otes for me i harrowed and worked on the canal

May 1894
thi 3 wattered and helped F B Forbes build on a kitchen recived one $1 .00 cash
mon 7 we all went up to costilla to vote wattered the rest
thi 10 dunn 50 cents blacksmithing for Bishop Funk on rile owned scraper and worked on Forbes kitchen 4 1/2 hours
sat 12 i went to sanford to get some flour
sun 13 got 137 Ibs of wheat from W H curby and 16 Ibs of pork of W 0 Crowth $160
mon 14 i took my wheat to mill mannassa got 50 Ibs flour tended afternoon confernece and home with Dunn
tus 15 chored around home
wed 16 i started to work for wm Funk to pay for 150 of flour that I got of him and rest i am to get in lumber 150 feet per day put in 5 hour
sun 20 tended meeting in house (his) and Brother Sanford Holman was ordained to the office of Priest by Bishop Furk
mon 21 worked labor tithing for Funk
wed 23 i went to san luis to see van diste about makeing him some brick for land relief society was organized
thi 24 i chored around home and worked 1 ½ hours for Wm Funk and started to watter my wheat the second time
fri 25 Joseph tended the watter and i worked on the filed fence

June 1894
mon 5 worked on yard and made 970 brick (from then until 20th he made brick)
sun 22 snowed tended meeting in Eastdale
mon 23 went after wood for myself (made brick again)

August 1894
thi 1 tended fast meeting in sanford in afternoon snowed in mountains
mon 5 started fire and plastered kiln
tus 6 molinda was blessed by bishop Funk
sun 11 fineshed in the forenoon in the afternoon tended conference at manassa
tus 13 started to made adobies for W 0 Crother made 1100 (made brick all week 2 to 3 thousand a day)
sun 18 tended meeting in sanford
tus 20 went and opened the kiln for van dest brick
sat 24 dun some blecksmithing for A M $150
sun 25 tended meeting in Eastdale
fri 31 went to san louis to see van deast about makeinc brick could not get the job and took clary Funk up to be examend as a teacher she did not pass

tus 4 shocked up snowed in the mountains
thi 6 went to sanford to get Grist
mon 10 worked on my stack yard

December 1894
fri 21 worked for Wm Funk helping to seal his house
sat 22 made door fraims for S A Dunn
sun 23 tended meeting in Eastdale deacon corum organized in Eastdale
mon 24 worked at carpenter work for S A Dunn
wed 26 i had my thrashing dun i had 65 wheat 65 otes
fri 28 fited 8 shorse shoos for Dunn and chored around home
sun 30 tended meeting in Eastdale
