
The Wellness Center's Training Institute (WCTI) director, Laun C. Smith, has offered development training for professionals in Clinical Counseling, Social Work, and Education since 1984, and Massage & Bodywork professions since January of 1997.
WCTI has and will continue to submit Workshop curriculum to various New Mexico State Boards for formal approval for Continuing Education, to include boards for: Nurses, Occupational Therapists, Physical Therapists, Massage Therapists, Counseling Therapists, Social Work Therapists and Physicians.
Additionally, WCTI plans to apply to the National Certification Board for Therapeutic Massage & Bodywork (NCBTMB) to become a Category A Massage & Bodywork training facility.

MTTI is a massage school certified
by the N.M. Board of Massage Therapy. MTTI offers a 700 hour /
6-Month course of study leading to a diploma in massage therapy.
After obtaining a diploma
in massage therapy MTTI will send a transcript of all courses
& grades to the NM Board of Massage Therapy. Once the board
receives the transcript, the student can sit for the National
Examination administered by the National Certification Board for
Therapeutic Massage & Bodywork (NCBTMB) which is given once
a month in El Paso. After passing the National Exam, you can submit
your application to the board for your license. The Board then
sends you a Jurisprudence Examination which you fill in and return.
After receiving your Jurisprudence Examination the board designates
you as a Licensed Massage Therapist (LMT).

Six Month Courses Begin in January and July.
MTTI's 6-Month course of Study
is conducted six days a week: Monday through Friday from 8am to
1pm, with 4 hours on Saturdays. This course of study was designed
so that a person could attend massage school, yet be able to maintain
employment at the same time.
MTTI Also offers courses of
study for other health care professionals such as nurses, physical
therapists, pccupational therapists, etc. whereby 105 hours are
waived due to thier formal education. This is a four hour class
from 5:30 to 9:30 pm Monday through Friday with four hours on
Saturday.
Tuition is $3,200 plus Tax (This includes text books) for health professionals (105 hours less) the tuition is $2,720 plus tax.
Students can apply for one of two Work-Study positions whereby tuition is waived in lieu of the work-study students working at either the school or the affiliate Day Spa as a receptionist / ????? / whatever. It's really not much "work" but work-study students simply cover the phones, set appointments, and do some secretarial duties, i.e. there is plenty of down time to allow much of thier time for studying. Practice What You Teach (20 hours)
Leave this workshop with the knowledge, skills and a plan to stay free of being overly stressed. Participants will explore the following modalities: Autogenic Training, Visualization, Dance, Diet (Nutrition) Therapies, Meditations, Massage, Qi Gong, Systematic Relaxation Techniques and Bio-Feedback.
Myofascial Manipulation I(16 hours)
Theory and clinical application of 20 specific techniques in treating the Lumbar Spine area.
Myofascial Manipulation II(16 hours)
Theory and clinical application of 12 specific techniques in treating the Thoracic/Upper Thoracic Spine area, and 7 specific techniques in treating the Cervical Spine area.
Functional Assessments for Massage Therapy(16 hours)
A review of various conditions and orthopedic assessment examinations. Text utilized: Functional Assessment in Massage Therapy by Whitney Lowe. Demonstrations (and practice) of assessments are presented by body regions and cross referenced with Lowe's textbook.
Ethical & Legal Issues in Massage & Bodywork(3 hours)
A review of ethical standards, adopted by the National Certification Board for Therapeudic Massage & Bodywork (NCBTMB) in addition to a review of current ethical standards adopted by the state boards of New Mexico, Texas, and Arizona.
Clinical Counseling Supervision -- Cost $50 per hour.
