H - 1 Engine
The 1st stage engine for the Saturn 1 and 1B launch vehicles. The
Saturn 1 used a cluster of 8 H - 1 engines to produce lift-off thrust of 1,500,000 lbs.
(6,675,000 newtons). The 1B used 8 upgraded H -1 engines to produce 1,600,000 lbs.
(7,120,000 newtons). Burned kerosene and liquid oxygen. Built by Rocketdyne, a division
of Rockwell International. A gift from the
International Space Hall of Fame Foundation. |
