I am a CHA/NARHA riding instructor & a past FFA Horse Judging Coach so I have real horse experience. I also show Arabians. I've been painting for about 7 years and have had NAN Champions, NAN Reserves & NAN Top Tens along with RESS Challenge winners & People Choice awards. This year it was an honor to have 2 Overall Champions at NAN in workmanship and 3 in breed classes along with numerous Top Ten's. I have a Yahoo egroup with updates and sales posts at http://groups.yahoo.com/group/brushworkstudio/
I paint in mixed media, mostly chalk pastels, acrylic paints, and colored pencils.

Lisa Carnevale - AZ
OF Breyer/Hartland/Other
Roving  Judge

I started collecting Model horses way back in 1981, have been live showing since 1984, God 21 years where has the time gone. I even still have my show models from back then and a couple even still show. I am mainly an OF collector for both Peter Stone and Breyers.  I recently got into, heavily mind you, due to a friend of mine who shall remain nameless, Teresa Northcutt, I starting really collecting Chinas and haven't looked back, both OF and Custom glazed.  I have around 5000 models, yes I said 5000, in my collection of all medians, OF, China, resins and Customs. I
really like to travel to out of State shows and have judged in California, Razz Ma Tazz and Kitty's No Snow. Judged in Colorado, RMR. Judged in Nevada, Las Vegas Live and NAN, and even as far away as Kentucky, Breyerfest Live.

I love to drive, I don't fly, so I do drive everywhere I go. I just love this wonderful country that we are lucky enough to live in and I wouldn't miss it for the world.

Lori Daniels - FL
OF Stone, CM Western Performance
AR Trad/Classic, OF English Performance
CM/AR Workmanship

Lori has lived and worked with horses all her life; art was a way to completely envelop herself in the areas she just couldn't 'inhabit' in real life. She has owned and operated Crazyhorse Studios for the last 20 plus years, currently working out of a small studio on her Back of the Moon Paints farm in Kissimmee Florida. She has just added pastels and airbrush to her workbench of oil paintjobs. Lori and her daughter Caitlin spend almost every weekend at horse shows. Lori is just finishing up a 3 year stint as treasurer of the Florida Paint horse club and looks forward to having some time to teach her show horse "Cleo" how to drive and to get more projects going in the studio.

Lori invites every one to come by and see some new finished projects and also to attend the "Judging 101" seminar on Friday night!

Caitlin Daniels - FL
OF Stone
Youth Classes
AR Trad/Classic

Caitlin is a senior in high school in Kissimmee Florida and was born into the art experience, as well as the real horses. She started showing a Quarter horse when she was 6 yrs old and has one more year left in 4-H. While Caitlin rarely collects model horses, she appreciates the finished product and LOVES to judge the live shows, where she is a favorite with the youth exhibitors. Caitlin plans a career in Forensic Science and keeping a busy schedule with a team of youth exhibitors after she is out of school and the youth clubs. She is also president of the Florida Paint Horse Youth club and an APHA national Youth director. She rides and trains Paint horses every
single day!

Caitlin wishes everyone good luck at El Paso Equine Art and to come by and say hi!

Renee DeVore - AZ
OF Stone
AR Trad/Classic

I've been collecting since about 1975/76 when Breyer introduced their stablemate line of horses, being 11-12 years old, they were the only things that I could talk my mom into buying for me. Since then I've collected a little bit of everything with my main collecting interests always revolving around the little guys (SM's/minis). I've been active in the hobby since the late 70's-early 80's when I saw my first 'live show' , Valsun in Phoenix Arizona. I've always enjoyed the community aspect and friendly atmosphere of our hobby and much prefer judging, or simply going to socialize/mingle nowadays to showing.   I've collected a little bit of everything from Chinas, to OFP to AR so I've been exposed to a lot of difference facets of our hobby over the years.   Not being one to follow 'fads' in regards to anything, I judge on anatomic/biomechanic correctness and look for models in good showing condition, but am able balance that with what I deem to be realistic expectations for what I am judging.  No real horses here ...and I'm not an artist ... I call myself a "hobby consumer".  I do have a lifetime of model horse showing experience... and enjoy bringing that experience, coupled with my general enthusiasm for the hobby, to any show I attend... whether I am showing, judging or just 'hanging out'.

Cheryl Farrens - TX
CM Other Performance
OF Western Performance

Cheryl Farrens has been breeding and training appaloosa horses since 1985. She has trained a national champion pleasure driving horse and owned several world and national reserve champions and a world champion sire. She has been judging open horse shows since the 1980's. She originally started out in Trakehners and then moved into Appaloosas when she discovered how intelligent and gentle they are.

She has been collecting models since she was a little girl in the early 1960's. She began attending model horse shows in early 2001 when one of her high school students told her about the hobby. She began judging in Region 9 at shows such as MAR, CRAB, Wilson, etc. and then moved to Region 5 in 2005. She has judged several shows in Region 5. Her primary focus as a judge is in performance. Her primary focus as a collector is in drastic customs and custom glazes. She is also the showholder of miniMAR, NEIBITS, and CHINETS.

She and her husband live on a ranch in east Texas where they raise appaloosas, donkeys, and longhorns.

Outside of horses, Jacquie's main interest is in American muscle cars.  Her first full project car, a custom 1970 Chevelle, debuted at one of the world's largest car conventions in 2005 and has been feautured in Hot Rod Magazine.

Marilyn Jensen - NM
Roving Judge

A lifelong horse lover, I rediscovered my childhood horse models in the attic in 1999 while looking for something else.  Through the internet, I found out about model horse collectors, model shows, and realistic artist-painted horse sculptures.

I enjoy attending model shows and networking with other collectors.  My main areas of interest are custom fired chinas, artists' resins, and customs.  Some of my models have won national championships in OF, Custom, Artists Resin, and Performance divisions over the past 6 years.  I have attended equine sculpting workshops by Lynn Fraley, Sue Sifton, and Kitty Cantrell; a class on mold making by Randy Buckler, classes on airbrushing by artists Thomas Bainbridge, Karen Gerhardt, and Laurie Jo Jensen, and two glazing and firing seminars by Joan Berkwitz.  El Paso Equine Art is the first model show I have hosted.  Website:  http://www.zianet.com/springtime/index.html

Cindy Marco - AZ
OF Miniature
CM Miniature

I live with my husband John on 2 acres in Buckeye, AZ. which is about 25 miles west of Phoenix. We have 4 dogs ( 3 Jack Russell Terrors & a Dalmatian), 3 cats (Manx, Russian Blue & Calico), a pot-bellied pig named Dixie, a 18 year old Quarter Horse named Crocodile Rock ( Crock), 2 pygmy goats, 12 various breed laying hens, a Koi pond, aquarium & several bettas.  I work for the Arizona Humane Society & John works for Animal Care & Control so we are both animal lovers!

I moved to AZ 13 years ago from Middleboro, Massachusetts. I was a 10 year Licensed Riding Instructor. I had an Appaloosa gelding named Ruddy Red Spot that I showed Amateur Owner & Non-Thoroughbred Working Hunter Classes. I also did some mini events with him - he could jump the moon!  I also had a palomino grade horse Gold'n Denver that I rode on competitive trail rides - The Vermont 100, Maine 80 and many other rides sanctioned by ECTRA ( Eastern Competitive Trail Riding Association).  Denver completed 2,000 miles with ECTRA and also was Reserve Champion Limited Distance out of 400 horses. He had a big trot & could trot all day! I competed in Arabian Costume classes. I  was the leader of a 4-H club "Raynham Riders". I was a ECTRA lay judge, I judged 4-H Horse Shows and I also judged 20 Mile Pleasure Rides.

My collection consists of 2,000+ mostly OF Breyers & Stones. I no longer show live horses & I enjoy model horse showing having met several great people including my good friend Marilyn Jensen!

Teresa Northcutt - AZ
OF Breyer/Hartland/Other
Roving Judge

My biggest achievement in the model horse hobby is putting on the longest running show in Arizona, which is Arizona Live (16 years).  It is also the most fun, in my opinion.  (grin)

I've met so many people in our hobby over the time I've been collecting and showing.  I was collecting as a little girl about 5 or 6 years old.  It was in high school that I met my best friend who was drawing horses in our geometry class, Joan Berkwitz of Pour Horse.  Joan invited me over to experience my very first show and do you know I took 1st place in a trail class!  I had no idea what I was doing, but learned very quickly.  We attended shows all over southern California together.  And what fun we had!

I started out collecting original finish plastics and now mostly collect Chinas.  I still have my original plastic models, but most of my collection is Chinas, mini customs and artist resins. I also collect zebras, fantasy equines and other oddities of the equine persuasion.

My two sisters and I started putting on shows at our house.  So it was not new to me when I moved to Arizona shortly after the birth of my son.  Then NAMHSA came into being and I became a member show right from the start.  My
dream is to become the Model Show of the Year.

I have judged at the California shows we've held, at Arizona Live, at Sun Country Live, at our local Circuit Shows, Live at White Sands, and at Desert Wind Classic. I hope I do a good job for you.  Good luck and have fun at the show!

Sue Stewart - TX
CM English Performance
OF Other Performance

I have been a collector of model horses for considerably longer than I like to admit having been alive. :D  I started my Hagen-Renaker collection in the 1950s, and still have my first Breyer from that time, as well.  I have bred, raised, trained, and shown real horses since the 1960s; while my primary focus is on purebred and partbred Arabians and NSH, I had an open training barn for some years and at one point was deeply involved in showing Morgans as well as all stock breeds, pleasure Walking Horses, and other breeds, and showed successfully to the national level in many events.  I judge approximately a dozen real horse shows annually, and enjoy judging and showing in model horse shows.  I especially love the opportunity to admire others’ collections and the skill and creativity involved in both halter and performance showing.  I have been NAMHSA president and regional representative, NAN registrar, and a NAN judge every year except 2005 (my employer just doesn’t understand priorities …).

Kathy Williams - CA
OF China/Resin
CM Fired China
China Workmanship

I have been collecting models of horses since I was a child in the late 1950’s.  As a working class urban kid,   owning a horse was impossible for my family. That didn’t stop my burning desire to have one. Every Christmas and birthday, a horse was #1 on my wish list. What I got instead were the only replacements my parents could afford – models.

I collected until the mid 1970’s when I was able to afford my first real horse. The models were boxed and sent to the basement and only came back out 20 years later when a friend introduced me to the model horse hobby. Although I never lost my love for models, I began breeding, training and showing American Quarter Horses during my college years. Our horses have competed in halter, western pleasure, trail, reining and pleasure driving and have won halter and western pleasure futurities as well as earning year end state awards and competing at the AQHA World Show. I still ride and keep horses today, although currently I enjoy simple recreational riding rather than competition.

As a china judge, my focus is on correct anatomy and sculptural realism.  Breed suitability is a primary factor for me when ranking breed halter divisions. Collectibility is very important to me when selecting a model to add to my own personal collection – I love things rare, old and beautiful. I love to learn new things, so when ranking the collectibility classes, I reward accurate and interesting documentation from entrants.

You can see some of my model collection and my real horses at my website:

Maria Zucconi - NM
Dog Show

I live in Las Cruces , New Mexico with my husband and Vizslas. I began training and showing dogs in the early 1970's. I participate in obedience, conformation, agility, tracking, hunting and field trials with my dogs.  I judge field trails and hunt tests.   I am also familiar with herding and lure coursing. I enjoy painting and drawing and dabble in photography.

(*Editor's note: Maria is MUCH too modest!! She is not only a participant, but one of the top trainers and and competitors in the country. Her canine artwork is phenomenal, and  her  wonderfully versatile dogs are consistently ranked among the top in the nation!)
