Sweetwater Teaching Center is located in the brilliant red rock country on the edge of the
Santa Fe National Forest, in the southern tip of the magnificent Jemez Mountains. The Jemez,
created during one of the greatest geological upheavals in what is now the continental
United States, offers a variety of scenery unmatched throughout the Southwest, including
heavily wooded forests of spruce and fir, spectacular natural limestone/sandstone canyons,
the beautiful
Jemez River that flows down the mountain out to the Rio Grande and special attractions ranging from healing springs to waterfalls and excavated pueblo ruins.
