TODAY's DMSP CONTROL CENTER

Today's DMSP Control Center is operated by a Reserve unit, 6SOPS, (formerly 4000 SOG and 1000 SOG).   They fly DMSP out of Schriever AFB, Colo Spgs, as the backup to NOAA in Suitland, MD.   They run approximately 10% of the DMSP supports each week in a state-of-the-art Ops Center, and are staffed by 10 full-time and 20 part-time AF Reservists. The 6SOPS Commander, Maj Keith Amburgey, advises they still display the Dan Gray original trophy on the wall and now award it to the individual who has given the most to the unit.

The satellite images that follow were provided by Capt Dan A. Shaltanis, HQ AFWA/XOOR, the Air Force Weather Agency (the old Global Weather Central).  These images were recently ingested from the latest DMSP F15 satellite.
