In this area the Manager, his family, and his staff lived in these concrete buildings.  Below: Breaking the nuts and scooping out the copra. Generally considered Women's Work. Below: The Colonial Government of Mauritius maintained a meteorological station on Diego Garcia until the US Navy got it's up and running in 1972. This was the only reliable electric power on the island. It was located in what is now called the "R&R Center" near the East Point Plantation.
