Want to Send Best Wishes
To The Boys and Girls
Currently Protecting Freedom
On Diego Garcia?
This Is The Place!

O.K.... here's the situation....
Given the current circumstances, I don't have an address on DG itself to give you so you can personally send greetings to the folks out there.  And it may take some time for your loved one to obtain internet access, etc.

But, you can email me your message, and I'll post it here - It might take a couple days, but I'll give it the good ol' college try.

THEY WILL EVENTUALLY SEE YOUR MESSAGE!
Even though this site is a little too "politically incorrect" to be endorsed by the brass, EVERYBODY on DG looks at it now and then.
And when they do over the next few months of their deployment, they'll see your message of encouragement, and know America and the World is behind them.  Don't expect them to write back right away.  They are certainly very concerned with what is called 'OPSEC' - which means Operational Security - and sometimes that means they can't even say they're there!  But rest assured, they'll appreciate whatever you write.

Remember - if its an emergency and you need to locate a loved one,
contact the nearest office of the American Red Cross.

First, to get us all in the mood, here's a love letter to the troops from Ben Stein:

Greetings From Rancho Mirage
Dear Soldiers, Sailors, Airmen, Marines, National Guard, Reservists, in Iraq, in the Middle East theater, in Afghanistan, in the area near Afghanistan, in any base anywhere in the world, and your families:
Let me tell you about why you guys own about 90 percent of the cojones in the whole world right now and  should be damned happy with yourselves and damned proud of who you are.
It was a dazzlingly hot day here in Rancho Mirage today. I did small errands like going to the bank to pay my mortgage, finding a new bed at a price I can afford, practicing driving with my new 5 wood, paying bills for about two hours.  I spoke for a long time to a woman who is going through a nasty child custody fight.  I got e-mails from a woman who was fired today from her job for not paying attention. I read about multi-billion-dollar mergers in  Europe, Asia, and the Mideast. I noticed how overweight I am, for the millionth time. In other words, I did a lot of nothing.
Like every other American who is not in the armed forces family, I basically just rearranged the deck chairs on the Titanic in my trivial, self-important, meaningless way.
Above all, I talked to a friend of more than forty-three years who told me he thought his life had no meaning because all he did was count his money. And, friends in the armed forces, this is  the story of all of America today. We are doing nothing but treading water while you guys carry on the life or death struggle against worldwide militant  Islamic terrorism. Our lives are about nothing: paying bills, going to humdrum jobs, waiting until we can go to sleep and then do it all again. Our most vivid issues are trivia compared with what you do every day, every minute, every second.
Oprah Winfrey talks a lot about "meaning" in life. For her, "meaning" is dieting and then having her photo on the cover of her magazine every single month (surely a new world record for egomania ). This is not "meaning."
Meaning is doing for others.  Meaning is risking your life for others.  Meaning is putting your bodies and families' peace of mind on the line to defeat some of the most evil, sick killers the world has ever known.  Meaning is leaving the comfort of home to fight to make sure that there still will be a home for your family and for your nation and for free men and  women everywhere.
Look, soldiers and Marines and sailors and airmen and Coast Guardsmen, there are eight billion people in this world. The whole fate of this world turns on what you people, 1.4 million, more or less, do every day. The fate of mankind depends on what about 2/100 of one percent of the  people in this world do every day -- and you are those people. And joining you is every policeman, fireman, and EMT in the country, also holding back the tide of chaos.
Do you know how important you are? Do you know how indispensable you are? Do you know how humbly grateful any of us who has a head on his shoulders is to you? Do you know that if you never do another thing in your lives, you will always still be heroes? That we could live without Hollywood or Wall Street or the NFL, but we cannot live for a  week without you?
We are on our knees to you and we bless and pray for you every moment. And Oprah Winfrey, if she were a size two, would not have one millionth of your importance, and all of the Wall Street billionaires will never mean what the least of you do, and if Barry Bonds hits hundreds of home runs it would not mean as much as you going on one patrol or driving one truck to the Baghdad airport.
You are everything to us, as we go through our little days, and you are in the prayers of the nation and of every decent man and woman on the planet.  That's who you are and what you mean. I hope you know that.
Love,
Ben Stein

My name is Barbara Newtzie and my son Philip Howarth is a seaman on D.G. right now and works in the Post Office. I am currently working Camp Taji in Iraq and am prior Army. Can you please post a message to my son and let him know how proud he has made me.
Of course like all parents and children, we have had our ups and downs, but he is my heart, my soul and my life. The day I came home from Iraq to see him graduate basic training, I was so proud, my little boy finally became a man. I know all mother feel sorrow when their children leave the nest, but I don't and probably never will feel that way, because my son will always be my baby. He will grow, mature and create a life of his own, but he will never out grow being my boy.
He has grown to be a man who knows right from wrong. He is a person who will fight for the weak and be strong enough to fight for those who cannot fight for themselves. He has turned into such a good person and someone with a heart. Please pass this on to him and anyone there who is in DG now, let him know this message is for him. And to all the others there, never forget your oath, your training, and to have a heart. We fight for freedom everyday for ourselves and for other, keep the fight and make your mother's proud.
Thank you,
Barbara J. Newtzie

FROM: David Finchum [david.finchum@bio-key.com]
To all the servicemen and women of Diego Garcia,
I would just like to thank each and everyone who is currently serving our country in the uniforms of the United States Military for a job very well done! You guys and gals are the greatest folks on earth as far as I am concerned!
From the time I was a very small child it was my dream to be serving along side you. Alas my wonderfully, yet poorly built half of a heart prevented me from being there with you in the hot dust, muck and mire, blazing tarmac, or on the deep blue sea. But it gave me an even deeper appreciation of life and the freedoms I have knowing that one day I might keel over and not be able to live a long and full life.
I don’t need to wear an American flag on my lapel or post yellow ribbons on my car or mail box, I have and will always sing yoru praises because I understand why you do the things you do, I understand the long hours you spend making sure that your battle readiness is always in a state of high alert. Why, every time I set down on a commercial airliner as I plod along in my hohum job, I fear not! Because I know the greatest military force the world has ever known is protecting me!
Especially those of you who are stationed at places like Diego Garcia. Away from your families, especially at this time of the year, I know it is tough. Very tough! I admire you for this. You give and give that others may receive. You give to all whether they deserve it or not. You are my heros! Each and everyone of you!!!
So from me and my family half way around the world in little old East Tennessee (home of the TN Air National Guard 134th Air Refueling Group (KC-135R’s)) I wish you the best of luck, a happy and joyous holiday season, and a speedy trip home!!

FROM:  Mike Gardner [intercede4u@yahoo.com]
Mr. Morris, Thank you for maintaining your very interesting Diego Garcia site, and for allowing me to thank some of those who keep me free.
I originally wrote this around Memorial Day, 2000. I have upated it since.
AT THE RIGHT TIME, WE REMEMBER
I wasn't there when the American Colonial Army stood winter guard in the snows of Valley Forge wearing bloody rags for boots as they fought for my freedom.
I wasn't there in the war of 1812.
I wasn't in the trenches when the German's seared the lungs of young American men with mustard gas as they fought for my freedom in World War One.
I wasn't at Pearl Harbor when a single Japanese bomb detonated a million pounds of black powder on the Arizona and instantaneously killed over one thousand American sailors preparing to defend my freedom against the Japanese and the Nazis.
I didn't see the bullet riddled bodies of the Americans who died defending my freedom in Korea.
I only vaguely remember the nightly news clips of  American soldiers as they carried out our government's orders in the jungles and swamps and tunnels of Vietnam.
I have never been with a family who lost a son or a daughter defending Kuwait.
I wasn't there with any of them when they suffered as prisoners of war in any of these wars.
I have never been with a family whose child died in a peace time military training exercise.
Not every one of our veterans saw combat. Some were clerks, cooks, mechanics, machinists. Some served during war time, some served during peace time, some serve in peace today, ready for battle tomorrow. Today they prepare for the ongoing war against terrorists. Some gave their lives, some suffered wounds, some saw things that no human should ever have to see, and many did things that no human should ever have to do. And all gave their daily life, for a period of time, while many more gave their time to work in the industries that sustained our veterans.
Not all of those who have protected my freedom were even in the military. Some of them were the firemen, policemen, and paramedics who risked their lives each day, rushing in where most of us would never tread. Some are the doctors and nurses who treat the wounded, and go home and cry for them. Some of them were "just" passengers on commercial airline flights who, with faith in Christ, calmly chose to fight, and die if necessary, rather than let Flight 93 be used as a weapon against their country and their fellow citizens.
When I tried to join the US Air Force, my application was turned down for medical reasons.
But because others were there, I am privileged to continue to live in the greatest nation the world has ever known and to enjoy the greatest freedoms that any people have ever known.
And so I thank you, veteran, whoever you are, and wherever you are.
Thank you Vet. Thanks Dad. This Memorial Day, I remember WHY I am free, and I thank you.
I know that when you were asked, at the right time, like Christ, you gave your life for me.
Romans 5:6-8
While we were still weak, at the right time Christ died for the ungodly.  Why, one will hardly die for a righteous man--though perhaps for a good man one will dare even to die.  But God shows his love for us in that while we were yet sinners Christ died for us.

To my dear friend Michael Barry,
First of all I would like to say I hope this e-mail finds you well.  Seeing you off that the airport this Saturday was not easy.  Standing there with your mother, father and cousin, as you walked past the security screen I wondered what this year ahead of us will bring.  But, most importantly, I ask what this year will bring for you.  Tears swelled in my eyes as I lost sight of you and looked over at your father and mother as they hugged.   You are so loved by everyone.  It has always been clear to me. You are truly blessed. You have a job to do and I understand what it means to be a part of the military.  New places, life long friendships, far off places and unfortunately the heart wrenching goodbyes all seem to be a part of the experience.
Today, I spent the first half of the morning looking through web page after web page trying to gather more information about Diego Garcia. It looks like paradise Island, a place that anyone would look at and say that they would do anything to see it first hand.  Ironic that it isn't a place that most people would ever see.  You will have to send me pictures and please stay in touch.
Like I told you before you left, you will be missed.  Take care of yourself.
Love always,
Julie
P.S.  Please send photos.

To everyone else on the island...Thank you for your sacrifices!  God Bless!

A Msg for SRA Brett Neely (the best damn 2T2 in USAF or at least on DG);   Date:   Tue, 5 Mar 2002 20:38:15 EST
From: RIGG455@aol.com;  Hello Bret,  CONGRADULATIONS DADDY!  I found this site a few days after you left.  The search and discovery of it  was for very selfish reasons. I wanted to see if the fishing was better there than it was on Wake Island where I spent a year a few more years ago than I like to remember. And, as probably you have discovered by now there are a few ahi (Hawaiian for yellow fit turna) around.  What great pictures of all those C-l4l guys protecting us while pulling in all those beautiful fish. GREAT STUFF.
Anyway, I will get to the mushy stuff now to justify putting this together and bothering good folks with such silly matters.  Our very best to you from all of us here at Tinker. If you are allowed snail mail, let us know. Perhaps you could use a care package by now.  Of course, small and memorable souvenirs of DG will be expected by return said snail.

To:  The B-52 Crews;  From:  Al Leff <aleff@hiwaay.net>
A little history of the B-52!! As an engineer that helped design and up date the B-52 I thought a little history was in order.   The original B-52 was a enlargement of the B-47. The prototype was a pair of planes with tandem seating cockpit like the b-47. Tail number 49-231 & 49-232.  The first production models which looked like todays version was 52-001thru 52-0013. 52-0013 was used as a test bed at Alamagordo and Edwards. It was the B-52 that dropped the x-15 mach 5 rocket plane.
Early versions of the B-52 used the P&W J-57 engine, and had a tail gunner. At the "F" model they converted to a Gatlin gun and the gunner moved up to the 41 section with the rest of the aircrew.   The "G" model got the chopped tail. I was in preliminary design then (in Wichita , Ks.)  We had a ball trying to figure out how to maintain directional control and even tried putting a fin under the tail!   I also did the basic layout for the six megaton H-Bombs and decoys. I also did a layout for a load of short range rockets under the wing, later designs converted the design to bombs. Note my work was just a matter of being told come up with a "layout" so we can figure what needs to be done . The "H" model got the engine change to the fan engines .
To give a little other trivia , the first chase planes used for test flights were P-80's later called F-80's. Eventually they had to go to F-86's to keep up as the plane evolved.
We even looked at putting a nuclear power plant in a B-52. That did not last long and the weight of the required sheilding and reactor exceeded the weight of the airplane!
There is a lot else I recall but do not feel free to print.
Keep up the wonderful work, we all are behind you.  Signed , A Mississippi State University  Bulldog.  Merry Christmas and Go To Hell Ole Miss!!

From:         Jim Parodi <jimparodi@hvc.rr.com>; Hi. I am a wallpaper installer in the suburbs of NYC. Does anybody need anything on DG that you just can't get?  How about some great American stuff like---Skippy Chunk, Southern Comfort, Pez, Goldberg's Peanut Chews.  I'd love to send some Taylor Ham for those from the NJ area, but I don't know if it will stand the tropical heat.  Anyway, If you need something just say the word to me. (jimparodi@hvc.rr.com)
BTW, Last Tuesday we had our local painters and paperhangers meeting--The Bergen County Mastercraftsmen.  Instead of donating to Red Cross, United Way, etc. we decided to send money directly to some local 911 victims.  Our member Paulie, who rents out 1/2 of his two family house, told us the family upstairs lost the father in the WTC and leaves a wife and 3 small children.  Scott, had a customer in town who also lost her husband and will have to sell her home and move in with family since she won't be able to afford the mortgage.  Ken's brother was a college friend of Mr. Glick, one of the civilian heroes on the PA plane on 9/11.
It is tough to imagine the complete disaster of 911---10,000 children who lost a parent--but these are the everyday survivors who live in our neighborhoods here whose lives were ripped apart.  It makes me sick......then mad......then mad as hell.  Please somebody, put my message on a bomb...."Say Cheese, Osama! You filthy lice-ridden load!"  Thank God for American servicemen and women and a special hello to the Brits and Aussies on DG.

The Aussies are coming!   Date:  Tue, 23 Oct 2001 14:45:08 EDT
From:  Lamarsmith513@aol.com;  I am an US Army veteran of Desert Shield/Storm and have realized something.  During a war the service is the place to be.  It sucks feeling like you can't do anything.  It was great knowing that the only thing you had to worry about was keeping your field of fire and your action on your M249 SAW machine-gun clear.  You guys are stuck out in the middle of nowhere, but you are absolutely essential to this fight.  Thank you for your service and professionalism and your seemingly irreverent sense of humor displayed on your web-site.  Now, I want to warn you about something.  I watched Larry King's interniew with the Australian Prime Minister and he reported that he has authorized sending 4 F/A 18s, a detachment of Australian SAS troopers, Refueling planes, several Orions, a command ship and a frigate escort.  Now, when I heard him say this the last part sounded like he said "......and a FRIGGING escort!"  I said "Damn, the Aussies are ready to war now!"  Altogether he reported that 1550 Aussies are on the way and at least the 4 Hornets are headed your way.  I know you guys work (and drink) closely with the Brits, but you haven't seen consumption until you've watched an Aussie put away his own body weight in beer.  The transport planes and ships supplying you guys will probably be stocked to the gills with the munitions our troops will need to fight this fight, but you guys better double or triple your beer orders.  I'm just warning you.  It's bad enough for you guys to be stuck out there, could you imagine it without a little amber frosty diversion because the damnable diggers drank it all?  Anybody needing a pen pal feel free to hit this retired Mechanized Infantry troop with an E-Mail.  See, I was smart enough to ride into battle, still dumb enough for the infantry.  I'm at lamarsmith513@aol.com.   God bless you! Lamar Smith

Tribute to Freedom;   Date:   Mon, 22 Oct 2001 15:30:56 -0500
From:  "Amy McDonald" <amyagmktr@hotmail.com>;  Like all Americans, I have been horror-struck by the events of September 11, and the increasing numbers of Anthrax cases currently in the country.  Like most Americans, I have been awe-struck by the tremendous outpouring of support from other countries and the increase in nationalistic pride, not to mention a return to Faith, that has come in the wake of our national tragedy.
I am, however, one of the lucky ones, because as others wonder how they can contribute to this war on terrorism, my heroic husband is there with all the rest of you heroes on DG.  His name is Tony Rodriguez, or "Rod", and his sons (16 months and 2 months old) and I are honored to have him join you to defend freedom for this world.
Tony, you are our hero, and we send our love and support to you.  Remember, we believe in what you are doing, and will be waiting patiently here for your safe return.  May God bless you all, Love, Amy

Date:    Sat, 13 Oct 2001 12:03:55 -0700;  Howdy to those of you on the rock . . . I was stationed there in 1978 as one of the last full Seabee Battalions to be working on the construction of the island. We built the two story barracks and widened/extended the runway to accommodate the B-52's.
I'm sure a lot of things have not changed: the coconut crabs, the occasional siting of hammerhead sharks, the white white beaches and turquoise water, the killer sunsets and weird clouds during the hurricane season in India. Is it still an assignment that you get if you piss off your Detailer?
We think of you often - there is life after the island and believe it or not when you get older you will only remember the good stuff and even have some fond memories. Thanks for carrying on and doing an important job to keep us free. I have a 12 year old son and I want him to have all the opportunities I had as a youngster - it is your sacrifice that will make that possible and we can not thank you enough.

A message from a NYC Taxi driver;     Date:   Sat, 13 Oct 2001 07:00:52 -0400
From:   Steve Yensel <synyny@earthlink.net>  Dear Folks,  I don't know you I am a lowly American (yes American from Indiana) cab driver in NYC. I slept through the attacks because I drive nights.  But I have to tell you the WTC towers especially at night were these lightened fingers sticking up into the night sky saying peace to the world now they are gone. So I say f--k peace.   You guys take care of your self and make sure none of you guys get hurt.  But I am glad you are there.
My heart in heavy with pain and it is like someone cookie cut out the bottom of Manhattan. I don't know if things will ever be the same. The smell of a burnt electrical fire is still lingering in the air now a month later.   I have lived here in NY for 12 years and thought I had seen every thing, I guess not.
I don't know what else to say, if you got any extra nukes hanging out let those guys suck on them.
Take Care,  Steve Yensel

DG;     Date:   Tue, 9 Oct 2001 15:42:46 -0700 (PDT)
From:  Norman Cherkis <fiveoceanscon@yahoo.com>;  I was on the road, just turning north from the Washington Beltway, on my way to NRL about 0930 EDT on Sept 11, when suddenly I saw a huge black cloud erupt to the northwest. That was the Pentagon hit. I got to NRL about 5 minutes later, and we got the news about two minutes after that. Not a good day in Black Rock or any other place in the US of A. I didn't know anybody directly involved, but it took a bunch of days before some of my friends were back in phone contact. Happy for me, but miserable for 187 people who should have taken leave.
But now, you guys are gassing up the BUFs and whatever else you have to fly out to the stone age center of the universe and bomb the bastards back into the Paleozoic, before the dinosaurs, even. Go get 'em, and get 'em again and again and again!  All the best and keep 'em flyin',  Norm Cherkis

An Open Letter;     Date:  Mon, 8 Oct 2001 07:16:21 -0500
From:  Shawn Williams <shawnw@gbsgraphics.com>;     To those serving in the fight to protect freedom and liberty:  There are few words that describe the feelings of respect and gratitude Americans are feeling for both our armed services and those of the United Kingdom in this time of intense insanity.
We've lost brothers, sisters, mothers, and fathers because of a hatred not seen on this planet in nearly sixty years; but this hatred has transformed a nation, a world.
We've been knocked down and bloodied but like any prizefighter we've shaken off the sting, wiped off the blood, and are about ready to hit back with a wicked left hook.
In the coming days, weeks, and years we'll look back at 11 September, 2001 and say, "No more."
No more: will the nations of the world standby and watch tyranny suppress, frighten, or kill.  No more: will people of the world be pinned down under the boot of intolerance.  No more: will we allow people of such ill guided notions of life suck the very same from our veins.  No more: will we take those who fight for our freedom, whether at home or abroad, for granted.
11 September, 2001 was our day to declare independence from tyranny.  With this declaration comes our heart felt respect, love, and support for those of you who are risking your life because we can never, will never, let this date slip from our consciousness.
God bless,
Shawn Williams

Keep the Faith!; Date: Tue, 2 Oct 2001 22:59:27 -0400
From: "CHRISTOPHER MILLER" <ctcmiller@losch.net> As a former Diego resident, I`d like to give a big hello to all the people there in support of our effort against the cowardly bastards who performed this unthinkable act on our beloved country.I supported our stand against Iraqi agression, and I support your efforts against terrorism worldwide. We must stand united against this cause, no matter how long it takes. I know Diego can be a pretty lonely place sometimes, but you must concentrate on the mission at hand.  Our fate is in your hands.  Sometimes that can get diluted as time drags on.  I recieved tremendous support from the homefront while I was there and I`m here to offer you the same.  I was part of the 42nd CAMS during my stay in support of B52G&H models.  Iwould love to hear from any of you that would like to chat about Diego, wartime problems, the sentiment of the country, etc. I know I felt totally detached while I was there, aside from the $20.00 two minute phone call to Mom and Dad. You can Email me at ctcmiller@losch.net  I would really like to hear from any of you.  God Bless.

From: "Michael B" <Mihaul@earthlink.net>  Hey there troops.  Us state's side folk are ok. We all have a renewed sense of strength and patriotism that runs deep. Our flag flys from every house, car and building in the country. Discussion of what to do, how to do it and when is in every coffee house, bar and restreaunt across the land. You can't buy a flag now because they are all sold out!  We also have no idea here what is being done now, and where, which of course is good. Loose lips do sink ships. We have the greatest faith in you all!  We trust that our security is in the worlds best hands! Let there be no doubt we are behind you all, and look forward to the day when you can all come home safe. Hit em hard, hit em fast, and show them just what we really are made of. You guys and girls represent us all. Do us proud!  No Mercy.  Gods speed, Mike

Your one of the suckers without abilty to taste that made you an aficionado of that crap in the first place...Maybe with you unable to buy from them for a while they may go out of business Thank God!!  I have spoken with Frederici's and they assure me that they will allow you to buy REAL PIzza from them..Best Wishes from the REAL PIZZA AFIONADO;s of The WORLD...Papap, Diana, Matthew and Shari

Here's the Very First Message that got this page going:

FROM:  Jim Parodi <jimparodi@hvc.rr.com>  I can't find any place for civilians in the US to wish god speed to all the US service men and women at DG.  Can you set up a civilian bulletin board for messages to those who will be serving on the island and have a web spot for service people at DG who have a wish list like homemade toll house cookies,  movie CDs or DVDs, even burned audio CDs with requests. I know you won't need longjohns.  Jim Parodi, Cornwall-on-Hudson NY
