Minutes. The CBS (US) news program repeats the tired
mythology
of the Chagossians as orchestrated by Oliver Bancoult.
- Bizarre
Email to the Virtual World Orchestra about DG.
- Brookings
Institute Chicken Little Report on Nukes in Your Backyard.
- Chagos
Refugee Group - headed by Oliver Bancoult. This group wants
the
Chagos turned over to Mauritius. "The organization works to
promote
awareness and recognition of the situation of the Chagossiam people as
well as improving the social and economic situation of its members
living
in exile in Mauritius and Seychelles. The organization worked
towards
its goals by pursuing legal action in the US and the UK, seeking to win
recognition of the right of the Chagossian people to return to their
homeland.
At the same time it offers assistance to and cultural activities for
Chagossians
in exile. This is the group that sued the US for genocide and $10
billion dollars. They lost.
- Chagossian

- Diego
Garcian Society - headed by Dr.
Allen Vicatassin. Dedicated to resettling Chagossians in the
U.K., with the ultimate goal of returning to the Chagos as productive
U.K.
citizens. As of August 2007, he's already saved over 1,000
Chagossians
from the poverty of Mauritian slums.
- Green
Party of the UK - their Manifesto originally read: "FP809 Renounce
all agreements which allow the USA to hold military bases in the
Dependencies:
a) British Indian Ocean Territory: The base on Diego Garcia to be
closed
and sovereignty of BIOT to be settled between Mauritius and the
Seychelles."
In 2001, they changed it to: "Paragraph FP809 contains old and
unduly
specific policies on particular US and South African bases in dependent
territories, and fails to take account of later developments. In
particular,
it fails to recognise the recent successful action in the Courts on
behalf
of former residents of the British Indian Ocean Territory, displaced
for
the US base at Diego Garcia. Rather than update the MfSS with more
detailed
policies, a more general approach is appropriate, reflecting our
opposition
to foreign military bases in the UK. Replace the old FP809 with new
paragraph:
"FP810
The Green Party is opposed to the use for foreign military bases of
dependent
territories for which the UK has responsibility. The UK should end such
current use by foreign countries, and should enter into no further
agreements
for such use."
- Ilois
Trust.org - "It is the intention of the site to raise global
awareness
of the struggles that the population of the islands face, and those
currently
living in Crawley, England as they battle the UK Government for their
right
to reclaim their homeland and return home.." Includes a
politicized
history by David Vine (see link below).
- Ilois
Welfare Fund. - Mauritian government agency with the following
objectives:
(a) to advance and promote the welfare of the members of the
Ilois

- "Island
Vulnerability" - This site "explores
the
challenges which isolated geographies face when dealing with risk and
disasters
by examining the processes which create, maintain, and could be used to
reduce their vulnerability." In the
evaluation of the BIOT, Ilan Kelman, basically repeats other diatribes
against the Brits and US, and states that the "current overriding
vulnerability" of the islands is "time" because it has the power to
cause
the exiled Chagossians to lose forever their knowledge for, and
interest
in, living on their rightful home of the Chagos Archipelago. He and I
have
communicated, and his questions to me and my response are on his
website.
- Letter
to the Editor of the Guardian. Finally, someone else has seen
through the veil so artfully displayed by the government of
Mauritius.
Since it will probably dissappear with time, I'll reprint it
here:
"Duncan Campbell only touched on the factor that is complicating the
resettlement
of "les Ilois", namely Mauritius's territorial claim to the Chagos
Islands
(Law lords hold key to islanders' dream of return to paradise, May 12).
For decades Mauritian politicians showed little interest in either the
plight of the Chagossians or the islands themselves, because until
recently
they appeared to have little value - except, of course, as a giant
aircraft
carrier for the USAF. The current upsurge of enthusiasm for
reclaiming
what Mauritius considers its territory has not been prompted by concern
for the plight of the displaced islanders but rather the prospect of
exploiting
the seas around them to feed the processing plants of its Port Louis
"Seafood
Hub". Once again, it seems, the Chagossians are simply being used as
pawns
in a bigger game where the prize is political and economic dominance of
the Indian Ocean region. SG Spark London"

John Pilger's stunning political commentary of the Chagossian Expulsion

a very one sided presentation. But brilliant and tear-jerking.

- UK
Chagos Support Association. "In the 1960s and 70s, Britain

Etc.

VERY
heavy on the left side, but a lot of apparently factual facts.

If
you are REALLY serious about joining the People's Revolution on
Diego Garcia, the USN has contracted for the Base Operations and
Support
on the atoll to DG21
- a limited liability company joint venture comprising three partners:
Day
& Zimmerman Svcs, and W.S.
Atkins Facilities Mgt., Ltd., and SKE
International, which is reportedly a shell company of SKE
Maintenance
Gmbh (www.ske-online.de), a German company owned by SGE Groupe
(www.groupe-sge.com),
a French company.
So
DG is really getting an international flavor.
DG21
is the successor (somehow) of IPAC (BOS Contractor from 1989-1994), and
won the contract from BJS International Associates (nee FEBROE,
1984-1989,
and 1994-1999). Round and round it goes!
If
you play your cards right, DG21 will actually PAY YOU TONS OF
MONEY to spend years on the Provisional Peoples' Republic of DGAR!
Remember,
if you get out there, and find that they need somebody to run the
airport,
or wash your cars, or just sit around the Expat Club and tell war
stories,
and are willing to pay me LOTS of money to do it, let me know!
There
are also several other contractors for various other
organizations.
The USAF has a couple. Unfortunately, I think they're afraid of
