                                 I have the honor to enclose
          herewith the declaration &c. of Sarah Manker widow
          of William Manker deceased for the benefits of the
          2d sec. Act 3d Feby 1853.

     Brief in the case of Sarah Manker widow of William
     Highland County and State of Ohio
     act 3 Feb. 1853

Is it documentary, traditionary, or supported by rolls? If either, state the substance.

     Husband was pensioner under the Act 7 June 1832, @ the rate of

     #20. per An.  Marriage proven by family record thereof & proof of

     reputation ????????????????? of Marriage & cohabitation.

     Pensioner died 29 Apl 1839 as appears from testimony of

     three witnesses & report of Hus'd auditor.
                                                 Three credible
     Affiants testify to & establish the widowhood & w'sntity of the

     Claimant.

On this 20th day of March

in the year of our Lord eighteen hundred

and fifty eight, before the Judge of the

Probate Court in and for the said Coun-

ty personally appeared Mrs. Sarah Manker,

aged nearly seventy three years, a resident

of Highland County and State of Ohio

who being duly sworn according to law,

doth on her oath make the following

declaration in order to obtain the benefit of

the provisions made by the act of Con-

gress approved on the

       granting pensions to widows of persons

who served during the Revolutionary war:

That she is the widow of William Manker

deceased who was a private of the Virgin-

ia Militia in the war of the Revolution, on

account of which service he was placed

upon the pension list under act of 7th

June 1832 at the rate of $20. per year.

That for the particulars of his services

she refers to the papers on file in the

pension office upon which her said

husband was pensioned.  That at the

time he was pensioned he resided

in the county of Highland in the State

of Ohio.

She further states that she was mar-

ried to the said William Manker, in

Champaign County in the state of

Ohio on the 1st day of July A.D. 1817.

by one John Thomas a Justice of the

Peace and that her name before

her said marriage was Sarah Pow-

ers.  That her husband the said Will-

iam Manker died in Highland Cou-

ty in the State of Ohio on the 29th day

of April A.D. 1839 all of which will

more particularly appear by the evidence,

as well as the proofs accompanying

the application of this deponent for

Bounty Land under the act of 3rd March

1855 upon which Land Warrant number

73.506 for 160 acres was issued to her.

And this deponent further states that

there is no public record of her said

marriage she having made an effort

to obtain a certified copy of the record of

her marriage from the Clerk of the Court

of the county in which she was married

to accompany her application for Bounty

Land and failed, and that there

is a private record of her ^ marriage

a copy of which she still possess the

original she forwarded with her application

for Bounty Land and which she sup-

poses is now on file with the papers of

said application in the pension office.

That she has not intermarried

since the death of her said husband,

the above mentioned William Manker

but has remained and now is his

widow.

She hereby appoints C.W. Bennett her

true and lawful attorney to prosecute

this her claim for a pension to receive

the certificate when issued and to

do all other acts necessary and proper

in the premises.

County Ohio Sarah Manker a resident of High-

witness, and who, being by me first duly sworn

doth on her oath state, that she is acquainted

with Mrs Sarah Manker the above name appli-

cant for a pension -- That she has has known

her for thirty five years last past, that she

has examined her family record that she be.....

the same to be genuine -- That she knows t.....

Henry Rhoades the agent of Mrs Sarah Manke.....

to obtain her Bounty Land Warrant received

her Marriage certificate which was her private

family record of her marriage and I know that

she still retains a copy of the same.

She states that there is no family record

of the death of said William Manker the hus-

band of said Sarah Manker but she further

states that William Manker the husband of

said Sarah Manker died on the 29th day of April

A.D. 1839.  That she was present when he died

and was at his burying.  And deponent

further states that she is not interested

and that she resides in the county and

state aforesaid.

well known and whom I certify to be

credible witness and who being by me

duly sworn depose and say that they are

each well acquainted with Mrs. Sarah Man-

ker the above named applicant for a

pension.  That they have known her for

twenty five years last past, that they were

acquainted with William Manker her late

husband having known him for about
seven
twenty five years previous to his death.

That the said Wiliam Manker was a

pensioner of the United States at the rate

of $20. per year and was a resident of

Highland County in said State, that

the said William Manker and Sarah

Manker lived together as husband and

wife and were so reputed to be.  That

deponents never heard the facts of their

marriage disputed or questioned.  That

the said William Manker died on the

29th day of April A.D. 1839. and the said

Sarah Manker has since that day been

reputed to be his widow, never having been

intermarried since the death of said

William and is now his widow, and

that her said husband was the iden-

tical man named in her declaration above

as a pensioner, and deponents further

state that that they were present and

saw the said Sarah execute the above

declaration by making her mark and making

oath thereto in due form of law and that

these deponents reside in the county afores-

aid.

Sarah Manker mentioned in the first affi-

davit on this paper and believe her to be

bodily infirmity I attended at her residence

and took her affidavit, and that I am not

interested in this her claim as agent or

otherwise.
