Although Paul began chasing his musical aspirations as early as high school by composing songs and performing them with high school acquaintances, the pace of his journey really didn't assume full stride until a college friend familiar with Paul's music dared him to record an album. Accepting the challenge, Paul began experimenting with recording techniques and in 1986 formed his record label, TMPB Recordings.
Benshoof's first album, A Bit Too Close, was originally released near Christmas 1986 in response to the catalytic dare instigated the previous spring.
