About the Blues
With almost no links to Western music traditions, the blues came from Negro spiritual/folk music with its roots in Africa. Blues got their name because they consisted of mostly sad songs and the term 'blue' was associated with feeling depressed. These songs could be about anything ranging from being homesick, to being heartbroken, to losing a friend--whatever the author was feeling. Generally, the themes of the blues are relationships between men and women. As blues music matured, lyric themes broadened from mere expression of frustration and fatigue and, despite being called the blues, the songs could express uplifting feelings and thoughts. The blues introduced a realism into American music as its subjects were everyday life and problems. Today's blues are still rooted in everyday life, and TMPB Recordings captures the best of it.

About Country Music
Country music generally refers to the rural folk music of Appalachia and the US south, as popularized by such groups as the Carter Family or the Delmore Brothers. In the 40s and 50s, country underwent a change with the music of people like Hank Williams and Bob Wills and the Nashville sound was on its way. Today's country music, although it began with roots in traditional folk music, owes little to it today. Country music now refers to the successful mass-marketed output that has developed into its own unmistakable style. The Nashville sound is now popular all over the world, and TMPB Recordings captures the best of it.

About Folk Music
Folk music is intensely loved by its fans and practitioners, so much so that it forms a subculture with a particular lifestyle, especially in English-speaking countries. Originating as songs about local areas, familiar people, and common beliefs, the term "folk music" eventually came to mean whatever the speaker wanted it to mean - usually any performer using an acoustic guitar. Thus, the term "roots music" was coined after the 1970s in an attempt to find a word that expressed more clearly what "folk" music was all about. Artists such as Bob Dylan, Arlo Guthrie, and Peter, Paul, and Mary popularized folk music in the 1960s, and artists today continue to carry the folk music banner, further diversifying the music without losing its "folky" simplicity. TMPB Recordings captures the best of it.

About Rock Music
Originally known as rockabilly, and later as rock 'n' roll, Elvis Presley's sound combined elements of African-American rhythm and blues with white, hillbilly country music. This marked the birth of rock 'n' roll popular music. As did its rhythm and blues relatives, rock 'n' roll played to the high spirits of young people and played heavily on sexual feelings, making it the first white popular music to do so. Of course many parents were upset by this, and swore that rock 'n' roll would ruin their teenage kids. The kids loved it then and still do today. The rock 'n' roll industry shifted from Memphis to New York and Los Angeles in the late 1950s. Around 1963, the British invasion of groups, like the Beatles and Rolling Stones, brought a fresh sound to the music, though they also based their style on American, southern music forms and urban-based blues. Today there are many splinter sounds of rock 'n' roll -- from Light Rock, to Heavy Metal, to Fusion, to Tech Rock. The vitality of youth that fueled the early music is still very much alive, and TMPB Recordings captures the best of it.

About Tex-Mex Music
Tex-Mex Music has been around longer than even most avid fans realize. Growing out of norteño music and conjunto bands, Tex-Mex also incorporated the popular music found around its birthplace in Latino communities in Texas. An infectious dance music, it combines the contemporary with the traditional and mixes up Mexican with American cultures just like the neighborhoods in which it thrives. Its current growing popularity not only draws fans from other widely popular styles--American pop, country, Mexican folk and pop musics--but also continues to evolve and add compatible influences. TMPB Recordings captures the best of it.
