T or C/Sierra County DWI Prevention Program

COORDINATION, PLANNING AND EVALUATION

Coordination, Planning and Evaluation remains active in collaborating with area agencies providing information and referral to organizations and the general public, and developing and engaging a viable and progressive Substance Abuse Task Force. The Administrator of the Local DWI Program will be responsible for the implementation and coordination of the program; she has 6 years experience in administering, planning and evaluation of grants and has been involved in the management of several programs around drugs and alcohol. She has trained for her LADAC, has received her New Mexico prevention certification and has 25 years experience in and around recovering people, treatment programs, and prevention programs as well as many years of supervision experience. She has implemented a new innovative prevention program with the Community DWI program and the schools, helped to design and manage an out-patient treatment for adults with child sexual abuse issues in Sierra County.  The DWI Administrator for Truth or Consequences/Sierra County is active in the community in the Health Council, the DWI Substance abuse Task Force, SW Regional Substance Abuse Coalition, she is a member of the Sierra Vista Counseling Center Advisory Board,  member of the State of New Mexico DWI Affiliate, and is working closely with the New Mexico Behavioral Health Collaborative, as a representative of Sierra County, she is also involved with the transportation taskforce, established a urinalysis screening program in the county, organized the Methamphetamine coalition and community training program for Methamphetamine, and she is the Director of the Youth and Family Community Center. Because of this involvement, the Administrator has an excellent working relationship with many of the agencies and individuals in the community, and a close working relationship with the County and City Commission, courts and enforcement.

The coordinator researches other funding possibilities and continues to seek out the proper programs for the community. Due to funding limitations, the Coordinator also assists in implementing some aspects of the prevention components of the program, i.e., school programs and activities the coordinator offers  the ADE needs assessment for those clients that cannot meet with the contracted screeners, she also is certified to administer the SASSI for Domestic Violence and does UA and saliva testing for CYFD clients. She also implemented and is evaluating a new and innovative prevention effort she designed herself for local school busses. Funding requested will also cover traveling expenses for required meetings with DFA, the NMPN, regional meetings and the DWI affiliate. Costs will also be included for a full-time office assistant for the coordinator, which will help ease the work load that has been incurred by the coordinator; she will then be able to concentrate her efforts towards making sure all programs are evaluated correctly and programs meet the needs of the community.
