Volunteers Needed For United Way’s
“Stuff-a-Bus With School Supplies”
The United Way of Otero County, in partnership with Wal-Mart
Supercenter and Stone Bus Company, will sponsor the 2nd Annual
“Stuff-a-Bus…With School Supplies” on August
4-6, 2006, in conjunction with the New Mexico “Back-To-School Tax Holiday”.
Volunteers are needed to collect supplies from 10am-7pm Friday, August 4th – Sunday,
August 6th.
Last year literally thousands of school supplies were collected
and distributed to 21 schools throughout Otero
County, including Holloman, Alamogordo, LaLuz,
Tularosa, & Cloudcroft (both public & private).
A lot of children are lucky to come to school with a pencil, let alone
the other needed supplies, said Shelley Bailey,
Executive Director of the United
Way of Otero
County. In the past a lot of teachers buy those extra
supplies out of their own pockets. This
is a wonderful community project to be involved with and we were able to
help many children (all ages) start school with a lot of the necessities. In
2005, in addition to residents dropping off school supplies, some dropped off
money--$1028.00 worth. With the
money, we simply bought more school supplies.
We literally "Stuffed the Bus”, Bailey said.
If you would like to volunteer with this very worthwhile project or would
like more information, please call the United Way of Otero County
at 437-8400 or stop by at 1601 10th
Street, Suite-B.
We look forward to
helping the children in our community.
