ANIMAL LICENSES:
All cats and dogs must be licensed and vaccinated. If animals are not
licensed and vaccinated, owners will be cited. All dogs must be fenced or
tied and not allowed to run at large. Owners will be cited for dogs running
at large.
TRASH:
The trash pickup schedule is as follows: North of Smokey Bear Blvd. on
Tuesdays and the remainder of Capitan on Wednesdays. When there is a Monday
holiday, trash pickup is one day later. Only household trash that is bagged
and in the polycarts will be picked up. If you have more trash than one
polycart will hold, we suggest you request an additional polycart from the
Lincoln County Solid Waste Authority (LCSWA). If any trash besides household
garbage is in the polycart, the polycart will not be emptied. The Village
has a roll off container on Yard Road in front of the Village yard. For a
fee of $10.00 per yard, you may dump other items besides household trash.
The hours are M-F from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., and the third Saturday of
each month from 8:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m. If you have any questions, please call
the LCSWA at 378-4697. All trash must be bagged or it will not be picked
up. All polycarts must be at the road or trash will not be picked up. THERE
WILL BE NO EXCEPTIONS. **If you are a new resident and have not received
a green polycart, please contact Village Hall at 354-2247 and one will be
delivered.
WATER TAMPERING:
It is illegal for any person or entity to tamper with any Village water
meter. Any person found guilty of tampering with a water meter shall be
subject to a fine of up to $300.00. Every household must have their own shut
off valve.
WATER SHUT OFFS AND PRESSURE REDUCING VALVES:
It is required for everyone to have their own pressure reducing valve
and their own shut off valve. If you need further information regarding
this matter, please contact Village Hall.
MOTOR VEHICLE DEPARTMENT HOURS:
Motor Vehicle hours are now from 8:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. and 1:00 p.m.
to 4:00 p.m., Monday and Tuesday. Santa Fe requires proof of insurance on
ANY vehicle transaction. You will need to provide your proof of insurance
to the Motor Vehicle Clerk for registrations or titles.
WATER EMERGENCIES:
If you have a water emergency, please contact the person on call, which
will be one of the following: 420-1712, Terry Cox, 420-1711, David Cox or
420-1713, Steve Osborn. You may also call Kathryn Griffin, the Village Clerk
at 354-4225, or Netta Nolen, Utility Billing Clerk at 354-3125.
BUSINESS LICENSE:
The Village of Capitan requires you to purchase a Village Business License
which is good for one year, and runs from January 1-January 1 of the following
year. You will be asked to provide proof of New Mexico State Tax ID # to
obtain this license, and the fee is $25.00.
