The last Village Clean Up, May 20th,
went real well. We were caught up by 11:00 AM. It looks
like we are making some head way as to getting the Village cleaned
up. We were again assisted by the Lions Club, and the Camp Sierra
Blanca boys helped by unloading the trucks and trailers. The
Lions furnished supervision and unloading also.
Our ongoing projects are moving along well. The street
improvement on Grandview and Skyview are progressing. The loop
line project grant has been signed. The next step will be the
archeological study for the pre-construction phase. If you have
been by the ball field lately, you have seen the irrigation lines being
installed so we hope to be planting grass soon. We have just
about finished getting the water line across the road.
If you missed the Smokey Bear Day festivities, May 5th and 6th, you
missed a great time. The organizations that put on the pageant
did a wonderful job. Not involved with any organization at the
time was George Tippin; he worked long and hard on this. You saw
him a few days before and after putting up signs and taking them
down. He also worked from dawn till dusk the days of the
pageant. I wish to offer a big “thanks” from the Village!
The last meeting of the Lincoln County Solid Waste Authority voted to
raise the fees on trash pickup. We have enclosed the new fees and
comparable fees from other towns and villages to see where we
stand. These costs are due to rising fuel costs. Fees have
not been raised since 2001, so there have been raises such as employee
insurance, wages, and fuel since then, such as we are experiencing in
the Village expenses. No one likes these raises, but they become
necessary due to inflation.
Just a reminder: no outside watering between the hours of 9 AM and 4:30
PM.
