MAYOR’S LETTER
APRIL 2006

The Village Hall will now be open 7:00 AM to 5:30 PM Monday through Friday beginning April 3, 2006.  The Motor Vehicle Department will be open 7:00 AM - 11:30 AM and 12:30 PM - 5:00 PM Monday through Thursday.

A village Clean-Up Day will be Saturday, April 8th from 8:00 AM to 2:00 PM.  The roll offs will be located on Tiger Drive between the Capitan Senior Citizens and the City Yard.  Hazardous waste, such as paint, and household trash will not be accepted.  This will be FREE for Village residences.  You will need to have proof you live in the Village; such as a water bill.

New developments concerning our water rights restrictions on Government Springs:  We were going to have to put in a new flow metering station at an expense of $7000.00 per year to the Village.  There are present negotiations with the State Engineering Office to estimate the station, which will mean a considerable savings to our Village.

We are negotiating with the State and Federal government for grants to replace our twenty two (22) miles of water lines that are not large enough to maintain proper fire protection.  Our water superintendent is presently prioritizing these lines.

Our Road Department will soon be starting the project to finish parts of East Grandview and Skyview.  There are already grants in place to implement proper drainage and dust control.

Now to an issue I would like to address.  I hoped this would never be necessary.  The “Inquirer” like news media to our south quoted me without ever interviewing me in any way, I might add.  Supposedly, Wednesday, after the election, I called Anna Gail Grassie and asked her to resign.  To set them straight, until last Thursday, I had not spoken to Ms. Grassie since she called me informing me that I had won the election.  Ms. Grassie assures me this never was said by her and I have no reason to believe she is not telling me the truth.  By the way, the night of March 7th, I was running a 102 temperature with a viral flu.

Another odd thing was our ex mayor’s full page spread in that issue addressing his name plaque.  It was on Mary LaRue’s desk being measured for the purpose of making a new one.  Knowing these penchants for fiction, this doesn’t surprise me.

Unless I have to address other mistruths quoted, my newsletters will be held to Village business and our aims for the future of the Village.

                                                                        Mayor Sam Hammons
