The Mayor's Christmas List
Why do we celebrate the birth of the Prince of Peace by giving our kids
knives, guns, tanks, and video war games, setting the war on poverty back
decades and leaving Santa not the only one in red? Hopefully, we'll remember
the way we spend Christmas is far more important than how much we spend.
We should be mindful that God chose to shock the world with a babe and not
a bomb.
This Christmas Season I am thankful...
... for being blessed with the gift of living in this village of over
2,000 wonderful souls and a handful of crotchety ol' coots. It's your job
to point out the ol' coots.
... for the employee's of the Village who give their all, day after day
to make our village run smooth, even with the Mayor constantly being underfoot
like a pup in a hail storm.
... for the Trustee's who I fight with from time to time. They're all
good people, with a thankless job, sometimes wise beyond their years, sometimes
foolish beyond belief, but always entertaining - or maybe that's a description
of me, it doesn't matter.
... for our Capitan Girls Volleyball Team, they are the best in the state!
To the girls, coaches, and those topless cheerleaders, thanks for the ride.
We all love you. If you've not seen the topless cheerleaders you need to
show up to a game, it'll be worth your time.
.... to the Capitan School System, who we trust enough to teach our children.
The teachers, and students are also the best in the state. Thank you for
the job you do without praise.
... even for the Flying Monkeys, who've inspired my Christmas fashion
trend of wearing Mistletoe on the back of my belt. What a dull place it would
be without you guys, but free coffee is not the answer to our problems.
Merry Christmas guys. Let's both take the month off?
... to the merchants of our town who risk all so we don't have to drive
up the hill. And most of all for the gross receipts, allowing us to throw
this party we call our village.
... for how our community pulls together when one is in need, the true
charter of a town.
... even for the Lincoln County News who faithfully romps and stomps
on me and being bold enough to do it without the advantage of facts. I think
they secretly love me - or not. But I love them. Merry Christmas, surely
we can agree on this issue?
...to you who make me warm when you wave, have a kind word, or smile
back at me.
Most of all I'm thankful God chose the babe and not the bomb. When you
talk to Him, tell Him I said Happy Birthday and thanks for the blessings.
Merry Christmas to you all, and may He continue to bless you and our Village.
