Volume I Issue 6 February, 2002
Dear Citizens and Friends,

Election time is here, so please vote for your choice of candidates to represent your Village for the next four years.

Since the Capitan Carrizozo Natural Gas (CCNG) has become such a vital issue to our Village, I have asked the CCNG board to have the meetings held in Capitan at the meeting room in Village Hall to accommodate more people and they have all agreed. The meetings are the 3 rd Wednesday of every month at 6:00p.m., so please come to the meetings and voice your opinions.

The Rural Utility Service (RUS) water improvement in the subdivision is moving along on schedule, I'm told that at times there might be water outages in the subdivision due to replacing lines etc. Hopefully these outages won't last long.

There was a bill introduced-in Legislature to do away with Gross Receipts Tax on food. This bill was killed in the Senate. If it had passed, it would have hurt infrastructure projects in small communities, such as ours a great deal.

The application to the Municipal Arterial Project (MAP) for funds to pave Main Road from Highway 48 to Valley View to Long Road to Highway 380 is due March 15 th; this application should be submitted each year until approved. I also spoke with Poe Corn who is the Southern New Mexico Regional Director for Senator Pete Dominici. He told me that there are federal funds available for infrastructure, such as roads in the subdivision. We will prepare a formal application for chipsealing roads to send to the Senator through Poe Corn and his Roswell staff. We certainly feel that we must go down every avenue to get state and federal funds for our subdivision roads.

Sincerely

Norm Renfro
Mayor
Village of Capitan
