Before you can buy you have to find something you like.

My number one tip is: Don't use plurals! If you are looking for a painting DO NOT type "paintings" into the search. Ebay's search can not deal with plurals, and you will get results that won't be of much help in your search. For more tips Click the link below.

Buying Original Art on eBay can be tricky. eBay is not selling the art, individual people list the art for sale.

Many sellers in the "Art Category" are not the artist. In fact many sellers buy stacks of paintings and prints from "art factories" overseas and try to pass them off as "originals.

A "self representing artist", or SRA, means that you are buying directly from the artist. No Galleries to deal with. NO gallery fees added onto the price. It means you are dealing directly with the person who created the artwork.

eBay even created a separate sub category under "Art" as a place for buyers to find artwork directly from the original artist. It is called the "Self Representing Artist" Category and you can click on the link below to go directly to that category to begin your search for fabulous original art at equally fantastic prices.

Product Finder is the set of drop down menus in the left margin of the page just under the words "Prints Painting Finder" that allows you to search by Type/medium/ subject/ style.

eBay has recently added the option to to filter by "original artist" or "Reproductions". We, of course, recommend you choose "Original Artist".

This "Prints Painting Finder" can help you narrow down your search if you have some idea of what you are looking for, but be aware that even if you are already in the self representing artist category, the results of this Finder will return results in ALL of the Art categories with no way to get results only in the self representing artist category.

We encourage you to check out this new Art Auction website. It has only art related auctions. Many of the artists that sell on other auction sites also list here, so you may well find your favorite artist here. It is new but it is also growing fast. And finding something you like is much easier at this new site.

Many of you may be familiar with eBay the online auctions site, but may not know that eBay also hosts "eBay stores" where items can be purchased immediately using their "Buy It Now" option, without bidding. The items in the stores do not show up when you do a search of the eBay auctions, except for a small link at the bottom of each search results page.

Many Self Representing Artist have set up eBay stores as an online gallery to sell their original works of art and Prints of their works. We have a list of some of these stores in the left hand margin of this page.
